If they look like this...

I just call them "American standard strat pickups from the 2000's" because they all came with those same pups unless someone before you swapped them out. I believe even on the spec sheets they are simply called American single-coils, and the description is "the protruding, unchamfered Alnico V slug magnets follow a vintage stagger save for the raised G string magnet"

Supposedly - at least according to Fender's ads/press releases - the pickups were "revised" as part of the 2008 update (when the series changed back to "American Standard" from "American Series"). That being said I never did hear much difference in them; as ebaysux says the specs didn't change.

You say you have a 2007/2008 - if it has the solid saddles then it's an American Series, if it has the bent steel saddles it's a "new" American Standard (go by the features not the serial number - the earliest of the revised models will still have "Z7xxxxxx" serial numbers).

For a time around then, didn't they call them Delta Tone Pickups (or something)?

It's a 2007 American series then because I have the block saddles. I am in an Instrumental funk band and I am thinking of changing/upgrading the pickups, would 69's be the way forward or do you think i am making a fuss about nothing???

Hard to say because we need to know more then just "funk" to determine if you need a darker, brighter, thicker, twangier sound etc etc but all in all just about any Strat with single coils sound be great for funk and you might be better off focusing on the amplifier if looking to change anything tone wise. If you mostly play clean funk rhythm stuff the stock pickups are fine.

According to the description, the pickups were not called Delta Tone per say, but the system was. They could have just been called "alnico 5 pickups" but to know what they are for would simply call them American single coils.

2007 American Series Stratocaster-

"... 3 custom staggered alnico 5 single-coil pickups, "DeltaTone" system (including high output bridge pickup and special "no-load" tone control for middle and bridge pickups)"
