How can I have too many guitars, when my wife can never have too many pairs of shoes, or purses? I've only got 6 guitars, and 3 amps... She has a lot more than 9 pairs of shoes!

The simple fact you have male genitalia between your legs rather than female means in any argument, past, present or future, you are wrong. Learning to accept this immutable fact is the quickest route to a happy marriage. Say you're sorry and do what you're told and you will be alright.

I disagree, counselor. The respondent has more than nine pairs of shoes......the plaintiff is on firm legal ground.

Case dismissed!

Just practice this line..."yes, you are right dear". Now I didn't and hence am divorced. On the bright side I have more guitars now then I know what to do with. On the down side the laundry is piling up.

I too, speak from experience.
Arjay's objections notwithstanding.

Yes, and then go out and buy a new guitar. It is easier to ask forgivness than to ask for permission!

I've owned up to 14 -17 guitars ar one time and learned that I was only playing about 3 or four of them.

I have since sold several. In fact I recently thinned out the heard. I just sold 5 guitars and I'm now down to 7. Currently, my collection is comprised of the following:

Home Built Andy Summers inspired Telecaster (It looks a lot like Andy's famous Tele, but has of my own personal choice).

2000 Candy Green Eric Clapton Strat
1975 3-color-sunburst Strat with rosewood fingerboard
1976 Blonde Strat with black pickgaurd, white pup covers, and maple neck
1979 Warn to wood Strat with rosewood fingerboard
Taylar 110 Accoustic
MIJ '51 P-Bass

I think Arjay got it right, have to find the right women. My wife originally half heartedly set my guitar limit at 10. But she recently said it had been awhile since I bought a guitar! Even ask what a Musicmaster was! That sounded like a Green Light to me! Of course it helps to keep her a little off balance with vintage amp purchases and refurbs!

yea, Arjay is right gotta have the right chemistry in that relationship.

my wife and I met in 9th grade (1973!) by then I had already started well on the road with music, in other words she "knew going in to this" where a lot of my passion was focused.

and yes,.. all the years gone by, we're still together, she's awesome,

And when ever I have a new shiney stringed object of desire, there is no problem as long as we can swing it.

(currently I have about 18 guitars... 6 amps, countless pedals and gadgets and a efw 88 key digi pianos [as I play piano as well]

I actually think I could open a store, but I'm not selling anything at the moment!

As usual, Arjay's wisdom is sound. Happily...and I do mean that, my wife and I are at peace with eachother's passions and don't keep score. Memo to group: keeping score is ususally a bad idea on any topic.

I never, ever comment on the seemingly constant accumulation of leather goods in her side of the closet. In return, my wife only asks casually if my latest musical purchase is a good value, and encourages me and our kids to enjoy music. We bought our son a (left-handed) Affinity Strat over a year ago (it was a good deal), and he's just starting to take lessons this summer.

I slim down my collection when I realize that I have guitars that I never play. Over the past year, I have parted with 7 guitars, and before that I parted with several others.

I'm going to give a quick list of all the guitars I have owned.

Peavey T-26 (84 - 89)
MIJ '62 Telecaster Custom (89 - 93)
1987 Strat Plus (93 - 99)
Les Paul Studeo (96 - 98)
MIJ '50s Tele (96 - 98)
Vester ES-335 copy (98 - 2010)
MIJ Strat (99 - 00)
Nashville Tele (99 - 00)
2000 EC Strat (00 - present)
Home Built Strat (01 - 14)
2003 Les Paul Std (04 - 12)
1977 Hartail Strat (04 - 07)
2004 50th Anniversy Strat (Am. Series) (04 - 14)
2004 Epi Les Paul (02 - 05)
2004 Taylar 110 (04 - Present)
2006 51 P-Bass
2006 Jezz Bass
2007 ES335 (07 - 11)
2007 Hwy1 (07 - 14)
Homebuilt Andy Summers Tele (07 - Present)
1979 Strat (11 - Present)
1998 PRS McCarty (12 - 14)
1976 Strat (13 - Present)
1975 Strat (14 - Present)

There are other guitars, but I can remember them, or I didn't keep them long enough to list them.

Yes choosing the right woman indeed is all you need to do, I chose the right one as my modeling amp is now getting quirky and my SFSR is to loud for the bedroom and everywhere else in the house, my wife says " stop complaining and just go out and get one that works for you" so now to find a new to me amp
