I keep mine outside on a stand. IMO, you should buy a hard case if you travel or gig often.

Location: In a house....unless I'm at work....then I'm in a shop.
If I had a room in my house that was a hobby room/studio then maybe I would let them out of there cases, but as it is now, the one I am playing the most is in it's case , really it takes a couple minutes to put it away or pull it out.
No, thinking it over, with a cat in a house, there going to live in there cases.

I pick my guitar up several times a day, so it never goes back to a case/bag, always leaning against the desk or on the carpet floor.

A guaranteed recipé for disaster.

Buy a stand.

I usually have two guitars in current rotation at any given time. These are kept on stands whilst all the rest stay in cases until they are required.

My guitars get mad if they are locked up in darkness.
They are so much happier to out in the open where they can please the eye's and ear's and fingers. :)

I have my 4 electrics on stands with a strap at the front of the neck to help keep them on the stand if they get pushed.
But, I made room for them in the corner of the living room where they happily group together.

If you have young kids running around make sure they understand that these are not the kind of toys that get thrown around. These are the kind of toys that you keep in great condition so you can play with them for many many years.

I have and only need 1 acoustic, my Taylor 414CE (1997) and it sits in it's case, mostly because I haven't been in an acoustic mood for a long while.
When I am it sits out in the fresh air as well.
Since I don't play it much the case keeps it safer and keeps the dust from settling on it.

Yeah, Stands are useful...really...readiness is one thing...careless is another. I'd hate to read the thread about that accident about to happen...

Cheers.

I keep mine on a stand where I can play it at a moment's notice and admire it the rest of the time.

I have 21 guitars on hangers in the Music Room.

I have the other 59 in hard cases or good gig bags in the adjacent store room.

I rotate guitars from cases to hangers every 2-3 months, so all guitars get a chance to be admired and played.

Temp and humidity controlled and no one gets into the Music Room unless invited.
