Hello everyone,

I'm saving up for an American Standard Strat right now and
hope to purchase before the years end.

My question is should I keep my guitar in a case when I'm not
playing it? My current Squire I'm practicing with and taking to
lessons is left on a stand when not in use. Not sure if that's
going to be cool to do with the MIA Strat.

Thanks for any input.

$@!& happens[*]. Cases protect.

[*]: Sometimes quite literally. One guy made his parrot sit on his guitar's headstock when it was in the stand, thinking it looked cute. Until the parrot turned around and let loose. Others have been the victim of visiting dogs, including a forum member here.

I'm in the habit of leaving mine out because I find that I play more when they are easily grabbed. Sometimes just for 30 seconds while I work out some fill that's in my head. I monitor the humidity in my room and never let them get into direct sunlight.
On the other hand, I have no pets or children to worry about. The cleaning lady with that vacuum is my biggest fear.

Where I can trust the surroundings, I'd leave it on a stand. As home life currently doesn't allow that, my guitars live in cases/gig bags.

My luthier instructs to keep them in the case. Keep them away from clasets which are next to plumming. a slow leak seeped under the closet wall and leached into the cases.

I keep my Strats out, available at a moment's desire. The climate here doesn't require constant temperature and humidity control.

They are on stands, off the floor, where I consider them to be relatively safe. The acoustics are also out, but in a more protected space...I can only trust the kids and dog so much.

ymmv.

Cheers.

If you live in a place with adequate humidity year-round, then do whatever you like. I live in NYC and the winters are very dry. My strat dried up and the neck bent two winters ago - had to take it in for a heat press, which solved the problem beautifully. Since then, I keep it in hard case October - May and on a stand the rest of the year.

My guitars are displayed on wall hangers just as would be found in a music store and travel to and from functions in a hard-shell case. The music room is temperature- and humidity-controlled, with controlled and monitored access to prevent unauthorized handling or other mischief.

I have 5 guitars. Two nice Gibsons, two non-MIA Fenders, and one Squier VM. All of them stay in cases except the Squier. I also notice myself being much more careful with the (more expensive) Gibsons.

Have to agree with Arjay on this, I have had mine on wall hangers for 15+ years and have yet to have any issue whatsoever. Best thing I ever did. For gigs they only travel in hard shell cases.

Thanks everybody for your input I really appreciate it.

I like the idea that if I leave it out I'll be more apt to
pick it up and play it. Then in the case for traveling
to lessons, etc.

Thanks again everyone,

Yes, in hardshell cases, except when being used.

All are in cases except two on stands. One LP and the Fender Straight Six Strat

All upright in Hard Cases unless being played, except my American Deluxe which is on an A-frame Stand so I can grab & play at will (though it too has an OHSC).

cheers!

In the case and that means closed and latched. I still remember the night I came home half in the bag 35 years ago. Sat on the bed in the dark took my pants off and tossed them across the room. Next thing I heard was my giant belt buckle dent the top of my martin guitar in it's opened case. I still get pissed at myself everytime I look at it.
