I recently traded for a Strat presented to me as an FSR. It does have the FSR circle logo on the back of the headstock. The serial number indicates MIM, Ensenada Plant, 2004-2005. It has a Rosewood finger board on maple neck. No pick guard. It is a Brown color, not a Tobacco Burst. It has some upgraded electronics and pick-ups and plays well. Any ideas on what this might have been out of the box? I can try to post some pics if that will help. Thanks to all.

If it is an MIM from that era with no pickguard.... without pics we can't confirm but most likely is simply an MIM FSR strat which I believed were produced until 2008 IIRC.

A little google foo found this..

"FENDER® FSR NO PICKGUARD STANDARD STRATOCASTER®
Alder body, 21 medium jumbo frets, vintage style tremolo, no pickguard, 3 single coil pickups, single volume and tone controls, 5-way pickup selector. Limited to 250 pieces. Made in Mexico".
FSNPGS...list $640.99

I think they also made a version in HSS.

No, certainly not.

This guitar was only available with three single coils and the choice of rosewood or maple fingerboard - offered in 3 finishes: black, 3-colour sunburst and candy apple red.

Ah okay, got it confused with a the Squire pick guard-less model....

Odd that the OP says his is brown though. Looking forward to the pics.

It could be that he means this...

Never seen an "FSR" logo before. But the one on that neck above would be appropriate I would think for the guitar he has.

Every single or double-cutaway solidbody electric lacking off a pickguard is better known as backrouted.

This term usually refers to a guitar or bass having its circuitry housed in the back of the body.

That may be the case and the correct technical term to describe the body routes for controls but if you google "Fender stratocaster with no pickguard" you get a lot more of the FSR's and Squires come up then if you google "Fender backrouted stratocaster".

in 2004 Fender introduced a few select American Deluxe models employing backrouted bodies crafted from select alder.

Image

Features included the choice of quilted or flamed hand-bent maple tops and a variety of premium options - including an ebony fingerboard. Only a very small batch of these guitars were sold with a Mini Floyd tremolo system.

Discontinued in 2006.

You still haven't... that's a 'Special Edition' sticker, NOT an FSR - 'Factory Special Run' sticker.

They are two different things.

I have a Stratocaster which is both a Limited Edition (noted on the neckplate):

and a Factory Special Run (with no indication whatever), the FSR is the color - CAR.

I've never seen any Factory Special Run identified on the instrument in any way.

cheers!

I think you missed the point of my comment. I never said or implied there were such a thing as an "FSR" logo or specific identification. I only was pointing out that perhaps the "special edition" logo is what the OP meant and mistakenly thought that meant it was an "FSR" identifier being that he said it was a "circle" on the back of the headstock.... (granted it is actually oval).

That being said, it seems that if he has the real deal they were all considered "FSR's" (the ones without the PG from the era). The specific reason for that I do not know for certain (most likely because of the backroute) but it certainly was a limited run essentially called an "FSR standard strat" : part # FSNPGS.

Not to hijack this thread and I know we have been down this road about quilt top (not for some who think it garish) but man I like that strat.
I don't have one with an ebony board.
Maybe I gotta starts shopping. :D

That would help....especially considering the OP says it is brown and someone posted they did not make them in brown. Unless it is an FSR "FSR". Double FSR if you will or special order FSR..or a refin, or a replica.
