I really love the strings that came with my MIA American Standard Strat (Fender® Standard TensionT Bullet ST3250L, Nickel Plated Steel, (.009 to .042), p/n 073-3250-203) . They seem to have a suppleness to them and I find them easy to play. Now that i've had the guitar for a couple of weeks and playing it for at least a couple of hours every day they have already lost their youth and they don't feel as smooth and suple. I'm wondering if I should go to a better brand as I think they should have had a bit more longevity? What I want though is a set of strings that feel the same. The strings that came with with it are specifically no longer made by fender. (Fender® Standard TensionT Bullet ST3250L, Nickel Plated Steel, (.009 to .042), p/n 073-3250-203). Does anyone know Fenders exact current equivalent or can someone please recommend a string by another maker that is similar?? As I said I really liked the softness of these strings but I do question how durable they really are...Truth is though I am not sure what I should reasonably expect as I am a new player. Bottom line: The softness was nice and they are no longer as soft...
Thanks!
PS: I keep them clean with a string cleaner.

When some item goes out of production, it's usually not replaced with an item that has exactly the same qualities.
So, if you don't get lucky and find a surplus of those strings on some guitar shop shelf, you just have to experiment. Try the SuperBullets first, or Ernie Ball Slinkys - IMHO they resemble the ones you liked.

Couple of weeks? I'd kill for that kind of longevity!

That said, Ernie Balls 9-46 work nicely for me on my MIM, I used 9-42's on my old MIA Deluxe, they were very nice. A close 2nd is D'Addario XL's in the respective gauges.

I've been using Pyramids, these ones:

They're not cheap, but sound great to me.

The way to get strings to last is to always before playing, wash your hands, and wipe down the strings when your done playing.

I have played many different brands of stings over the year, the ones that I currently use are made by the Optima-Musiksaiten string company they are called Optima Gold stings, and as the name implies they are coated with 24k gold.

The gold plating is the key here, it is anti corrosive and these stings last forever if you take care of them.
Really, I have had the same set on my Strat for a year, and they still sound good. Yes, I am going to change them as soon as my cream colored pick-up covers get here from Fender, but it's more because I am changing the covers, the strings just stay in tune no matter how much I bend them.

The sad part is, they are nearly impossible to find in the US, I have to order them from Strings direct in London, three sets cost me 44.00 for three sets...and I still have two of them to go.

I think the reason why you can't find them here is because of how long they last....three weeks on a set of strings? And some wish they could get that long out of a set?

Yes, the music stores would be hurting if you only replaced your strings once a year.........I guess.

Note that many of the OEM and boutique strings are made by other companies, and the only things that differ are the wrapping and the price.

Very few of them have the equipment to make strings. Some may have winders and ball enders, but they still buy the cores and unwound strings, so at most they "make" half the strings.
