Why not? Nothing like a bunch of flea market guitars taking up space. I actually have a really cheap looking acoustic no name and a really cheap looking possibly 30-40+ year old made in Japan Bass with "Saturn" on the headstock that a friend asked me to hold for him while he was moving...and never came back to get them.

I would buy several. They are great platforms to practice stuff like fret work, soldering etc.
I haven't done any work for a while, but have some stuff I need to get to. Cheap garbage guitars are good for getting back in shape. (I know you work on gear constantly, but for me these would be handy, before I work on the stuff I care about.)

I don't do fret jobs. However I see your point. I do have quite a few "parts" guitars that I have used to practice stripping techniques, repairs and finishes on. However the last thing I need is a bunch more of those guitars at this point lol. As far as soldering I have been doing that since high school and then took electrical engineering in college where my first project was making a printed circuit board for a power supply from scratch....don't need too much more practice in that area :)

But if you want guitars like that to practice stuff on just keep your eyes open at garage sales, flea markets and junk dealers. Heck I once got a squire for free off CL. The poster said it was totally taken apart and he was going off to school and the first person there gets it all. I was the first one there. It was a little bit better of a deal then this "State of the Art" pile of junk for $30,000 posing as a vintage strat.

oh yeah, don't buy that one. but if I were at a flea market and found someone with 3 or 4 of em at 10-15 bucks, i'd be in. probably try offering 30 bucks for all of em. I haven't done any work for a while, so I need to practice before I tackle stuff I would care about.

i wouldn't buy em to play/gig, but for the uses both of us stated. plus when done with em, you could make some artful wall hangers out of em.

passing them off as a good guitar and fleecing some poor sap is reprehensible.

I can't find the pic for it but I once took an old squire and cut out the entire inside of the body leaving just a 2" outline of the guitar. It was very flimsy but looked pretty cool. I painted it sea foam green, reliced it a bit and got a pretty penny for it on ebay from some guy who just had to have it for his shop. You had to keep the strings really loose or it would have snapped at the neck pocket.

That's good and all, except the ad is still up and running.
If he is truly thankful, then he needs to take the ad down.
I don't think he's unaware of what he's doing, but he is very unaware that it will get him nowhere.

BTW, I sent him an email explaining some things to him as well. :)
The neck is not even a Fender neck, and the pick guard doesn't even fit.
The tuners are not vintage, more modern.

He even says the guitar is anywhere near mint not great, but then prices it higher than what a real near mint '62 would sell for.

I flagged it.

I don't think I've ever flagged a CL listing before but I couldn't let that one go.

Actually it is not the wrong neck, tuners or pickguard...for what it actually is and that is the name on the headstock which is "State of the Art"....it is an actual brand that made really cheap Strat and Tele copies...and maybe others as well. So the entire guitar is wrong if trying to pawn it off as a $30,000 vintage Strat rather then a cheap flea market level beginner guitar but is 100% right if it was properly listed as a "state of the art" brand Strat style guitar more realistically priced at around 30 bucks tops.
