I had posted a similar "story" in another section where there was an acoustic involved but realized there was a link where a strat is involved so figured I would share it in this section with my strat brethren....

While youtube surfing I found something of interest (at least to me) with Fender Studio Sessions.

Long story short I was in a band years ago and it was a brother and sister plus a drummer. The sister left the band and moved to LA seeking a solo career and called me to try out to take her place since I was in a band with the drummer in another project.

The sister "Meg" gets discovered in LA by some ex "head" of a major label and tells her if she gets a band together he will sign her on the spot.

So it ends up her brother, myself and the drummer moved to LA to be her band. I lived on the floor in the living room of the apt with her and her brother in Silverlake for like a year and push comes to shove it just was not working out..we were not "clicking" as a band so I joined other touring bands, her brother and the drummer went off to other ventures and she ended up working with a producer and getting signed to Atlantic Records a few years later and just released an EP and is touring including a spot at lollapalooza.

Anyhow Meg looks like she is 16 but she is actually 27..maybe 28 now. The video is an example of one of her original songs. I do not know the exact model they gave her to play in the vid but it looks like a nice USA of some type. As well for most of the song the guitar sound is kind of buried and she is muting for most of it but anyhow here is the vid for anyone interested...

I must warn there is a "F" bomb dropped in a verse so if you are offended by that do not watch the video. If you want you can click the link in the description and see her doing another original using a Fender Acoustic. I have not tried out that model yet but one has a Strat headstock and one has a Tele headstock. I must get one of those.

Cool story, thanks for sharing, I love this side of the site.

She's pretty cool too, though that muffled singing that is in style now, is slowly getting on my nerves.

and you gotta love a white strat :D

Well to her credit she moved to LA from florida with literally nothing but some guitars and a bass by herself knowing no one there at a very young age and made a name for herself in a town that is so competitive for music and arts I can not even explain. The original band was heavy and more like post grunge and her solo stuff is and has been evolving into something different and even though I was not really getting it there was something about her that I felt was captivating. I guess Atlantic records and Fender feel the same way. Personally I feel if she keeps being so dark that it is going to hurt her but I am sure those invested in her will help persuade her in which direction to head in the future to get a return on their investment. She is really super talented and also plays a mean bass. But her talent is really a singer/songwriter and not a virtuoso guitar player. She has a great producer as well. I only wish the best for her. I should be seeing her in early July for her brothers wedding if she is not on a tour. We did not part on the greatest terms but I doubt she is holding any kind of a grudge.

I remember there was a bit of an issue because I was lacquer painting guitars in the apt LOL. She told me it did not bother her but I know it did...it was BRUTAL. But then again she has me to thank for introducing her to the wonders of the strat. Oh and we almost got evicted because her brother and I were flushing cigarette butts down the toilet which backed up other apts in a no smoking building (of course we lied and denied that).....and I think we also caused some kind of a flood and she had to pay since the lease was in her name.

And yes I do love that strat. There is another vid of her by herself from Fender playing a real expensive red USA reissue of some kind (maybe a 50s?). It is a distorted sound and again she is doing some real basic playing but here is a link to that one. It is a bit more grunge then the other one but still a bit dark. I recall a twitter or something from last year where she said that guitar will be hers. Now that would make me a bit jealous lol.
