That is awesome. Throw some stain on it and you have one really unique strat. I was going to comment on why you would use wood with a knot in it like that but when thinking about it realized it only adds to the charm and uniqueness.

Thanks for your comments, I had to use that wood, its the only plank they had at the timber merchant that was the right size.I didn't want to use expensive wood anyway.I'm sure I read somewhere that fender used pine in the very early days though I might be wrong.

I have heard they used pine as well for certain models and certain years when it was a hassle getting alder. It is supposed to be as acceptable a tonewood as alder at least according to "experts". But your ear does not lie. If it sounds good to you then who cares what it is made of or that it has a big ol knot in it? You did a great job on your first body...I bet you could get a couple of hundred for that on ebay with a nice light stain on it lol.

Pine was used early on during Leo's initial experiments with the guitar that would ultimately become the Telecaster but it was during the mid 1990's when alder became temporarily difficult to obtain and poplar was deemed an acceptable second-tier substitute. Poplar had been spec'd by FEIC in the mid '50s for use on their then-new Musicmaster and Duo-Sonic "student" guitars and it's properties favored Leo's old cutting and shaping machines.

You are like a human Fender encyclopedia. Anyhow it seems they used pine on some CS models as well. http://www.coda-music.com/fender-custom ... -9898.html

Yes supros looks good.I think he's used wood stain and judging from the comments here I think i'll use that with mine. Keep it simple for the first one.

Simple is good, and often the wisest course of action for initial experiments.

Did you happen to document the body's fabrication with photographs? If so, those pics would be of interest to many of us.
