The first step in my current partscaster project is to put together the pickguard. After I get done modding it, I will install it in my Am Dlx HSS temporarily just to make sure all of my wiring works and see how I like the Fat 50's.
I purchased a loaded pickguard with Fat 50's from an Ebay dealer, HD Custom Guitar Supplies. It came nicely put together

I also purchased a pickguard from Warmouth. I had them only drill the two holes for the volume and one tone control. My plan is to eliminate the middle tone control, and move the 5 way switch over between the volume and master tone.

I decided to add a Mojotone Volume mod, which is a 220k resistor and 471 pf capacitor, to the volume pot. This is supposed to preserve high end and improve the taper of the pot:

I also installed a Sprague Orange Drop .022 capacitor. I broke the original ceramic cap trying to remove it. I went online late one night and ordered the Sprague by mistake, instead of the PIO cap that I was planning on using. There's a lesson in there somewhere!

Here's the back side of the new pickguard with all of the mods done. Cutting the hole for the 5 way switch was a little stressful, but it came out pretty good.

Here is my Am Dlx which will be the temporary home for the new pickguard until I get the partscaster body and neck together.

Believe it or not, all of my wiring worked first time. Surprised me. The Fat 50's sounded good with a little dirt, but were pretty harsh clean. I ended up dropping the pup height all the way down to 1/8" off of the pick guard. The G, with the high pole, is still a bit harsh to me. Part of the problem I think is I used a brand of strings that I've never used before, which was not a smart move on my part.
I've only had about an hour to play them. I'll live with them for the next couple of weeks and get to know them better. I'll probably put some DR Pure Blues on, which is my normal string. Also, I may try taking the Mojotone volume mod off. I'll let you know.
