It is pretty much the same with all Strats from most of the major suppliers. However, I have found that you can deal with most places and get a lower price, and/or free shipping, and/or extras in almost every instance. Think of it as a "suggested price" and the deal is up to your abilities, your purchasing power (how much you have spent there in the past) and the particular store.

It is a "Minimum Advertised Price" strategy - as shimmilou says Fender (and all other major companies including Gibson and PRS) put in their dealer contracts that the dealer cannot advertise the products at a lower price. That does not prohibit them from selling the products for a lower price, but you have to contact them. It's up to you as the consumer to know this and negotiate a better price.

+1

Those who know how to wheel and deal can usually come to an equitable accord when haggling over a guitar, amp, or other premium-priced piece of gear.

With regard to Guitar Guitar, when I asked them to quote me on my recent Strat purchase they were over £200 pounds more expensive than my local guitar store quoted me, and indeed lied to me about Fender retail price for it. So while there may be price fixing you can always rely on Guitar Guitar to shaft you above this

You have to willingly participate in order to be shafted.

In other words, don't be a schmuck.

Of course it is. And if they did not do this, the large retailers would discount their prices until their competition (the smaller stores) would be out of business. There are tons of items that have this type of pricing, not just guitars.

I see the same phenomena occurring on Ebay.

Try a Price Beat with DV247.
Thomann are listing that Strat with 3 cards for £1276.
You could buy from Thomann with free shipping but you probably need a credit card which doesn't charge for GP Pound to Euro conversion. Mine charges , as I found out when first using Thomann, 2.99% which reduces the price advantage somewhat

I did buy a guitar from "GG" (ok - it was not a strat but an LP Traditional, this was 2 years ago). Then about 2 weeks later they were selling them for £300 less. My derriere is still hurting and I won't be buying from them again. This is despite going with a friend who puts many thousands of ££ their way - they could have said "psst - come back in 2 weeks" - but they didn't.

Check for a 30 day price guarantee. I know GC has this, and I have benefited from it a couple of times. Of course I have also seen the price drop outside of the 30 days. :x

There is also a trend on sales at certain times of the year, patience and vigilance can pay off.
