I recently got back into the market for a new guitar.i noticed a mim strat for sale locally for a crazy low price but I want either a sunburst v neck USA strat or a telecaster( I've developed a weird fascination for the tele)... Anyways,a few days later it was still listed so I figured I would check it out.mint condition unplayed vintage white strat with maple neck, gig bag.seller said he bought it new and it sat in his closet.he wanted 2hundred for it.i picked it up for 120..it plays and sounds great.im pretty happy to score such a deal.the seller said I was the only one intrested in the 3weeks it was listed.all similar strats listed on cl are in the 300-450 range :D :D

Well whatever you do with it you got a good score. I sold a 90s MIM sunburst back in 2008 or 9 and posted it on CL for $325. It sold in minutes but I took $300 for it. I remember the person that bought it was really happy with the price as he was told the MIMs are supposed to be the same as the MIA. Well maybe the wood but who was I to argue when making a sale. I think I paid under $200 for that guitar at a pawn shop but it was purchased in Tennessee where it would certainly not sell as quick as it did for me in Los Angeles.

Ya,It wasn't what I was looking for but I figured I couldn't go wrong for 120 bucks.its a really nice player and sounds great so I don't know if I should get rid of it or keep it..lol...I've already been thinking about a vintage sea foam green or blue refinish. in the few weeks I've been looking, there seems to be alot of mexi strats coming and going..im starting to think if I can find a Mexican telecaster that plays and sounds as good as this strat I might not even bother with a USA made one.

Well for me personally I have no complaints with the looks of the Mexi strats but to me they just don't "feel" right..I do not know if it is the weight or the necks...just one of those personal things. That said, I used one for years in a professional band (bone stock standard) and it sufficed. I was simply too broke at the time to buy an American. As well I know other pro players that use Mexis but they use the 50s reissues and change the nuts, pups and bridges and they sound amazing both live and when recorded and even with the mods still come out less expensive then a stock USA standard.

As far as what to do with it there are always choices and it drives us nuts but if you are happy with the feel of the guitar then by all means just keep it and do a refin to the color you want. Reranch sells just about any Fender color in nitro and if you don't mind doing a little sanding and have a bit of talent with a shaker can you can get an excellent paint job for about 20 bucks. Bear in mind the nitro takes a while to cure and I would suggest at least 3 weeks before buffing and possibly even longer before handling. I know I wait a month when I do nitro jobs...learned that the hard way.

I'm just thinking out loud right now..haha..as far s the refin goes,I'm a 20+year pro auto painter.ive custom painted & airbrushed more than a few guitars so that's not a problem.I've never used nitro though..that's probably what I would want to use.:D ..for now I will probably just hold onto it and keep looking for why I'm after.i can always try and sell it later...
