I'm customizing a 2010 Mexican Stratocaster (SSS). I have installed a Fender custom shop Texas special at the bridge, and a Fender custom shop fat '50's at the neck position. I am pleased with both of them. I need to make a choice now on what to put in the middle, and I want to stay with Fender pickups. The obvious choice is to go with either another Tx special, or another fat '50's. I don't think either would be disappointing, but I'm also interested in the possibility of something else for a little more variety of available tones. I plan to use this guitar for a variety of things including dirty, bluesy stuff, classic rock, old '50's rock, and some country music as well. I will be playing clean a lot and using some light/moderate distortion, nothing really heavy.

On most Strats, I find the 2 position (bridge and middle) as my favorite for bluesy lead tone. I'm looking for something that will compliment the Tx special well in this way, but will also be useful in combination with the neck pickup.

So what do you think? Should I add another Tx special or fat '50's and be done with it, or are there others that you think might fit well with this setup? Anybody else here have the same/similar combination?

Many "flavors" available but bear in mind, if you want hum-cancelling in position 3 you'll need to select a RW/RP pickup for that slot.

Personally, I'd go with the middle Fat '50s pickup there.

Fat 50s, or in keeping with a variety pack, a CS 54 might be sweet.

On Mine I used the 69's in the bridge and neck and fat 50's reverse wound in the middle and a paper and oil PF22 cap.

I like the 69's better the Texas one, less mid-rangey.
