Someone gave me this strat or "strat like" body along with a Charvel neck (the neck is like a strat neck small headstock type). I do not think the body is a Charvel as I have never seen one with routes like this. I have also never seen a Fender with a route like this either so I am curious if anyone can help identify it. Not sure if the wood but it has a deep grain like ash. Not sure of the weight either but someone wrote "4.4" in the neck pocket so I am thinking that is the weight...it feels a bit heavy compared to other bodies I have. Now like a squire it has evenly spaced holes for the rear trem cover but it has the thicker neck mounting area unlike a squire and more like an american or mexi. No other clues really but it does have the small hole that goes thought the neck pocket and body like a japan or other import. It seems to be somewhat older has you can see by the body fade around the pickguard area but no dating on the body or neck.

The pencil marks by the pup routes were put there by me, I am going to do an H/H setup and need to route unless I find out this is some kind of rare Fender body... but I really do not think so.

Go ahead and modify it.

The slightly-enlarged S/S/S pickup routs are reminiscent of those seen on WD bodies. And their horn contours lack some of the subtle finesse of authentic Fender Strats, which your body also seems to exhibit.

Nothing rare there -- go ahead and rout to your heart's content.

Yeah that is what I figured. Well at least I finally get to use a loaded H/H pickguard I had lying around forever. I figure I will use it with the Charvel neck and paint it Japan flag since the pickguard already has the design. If it actually sounds and plays nice I might even keep it.

If I had that body, with that patina, I'd think about making an Yngwie Play It Loud clone.

I like that idea but being that I need to use that Charvel neck and the HH loaded guard for something I figure I might as well dump them on this unknown body and see what happens...granted yes once I paint it all that patina is history which is why I had second thoughts of even routing it. But being it is nothing rare or desirable I don't feel too guilty taking any value away from it regardless of what I end up doing.

To go to all that trouble to make a Japanese-flag design just because you have the the matching pickguard ... Oh, that idea makes my head hurt. I never liked those Japanese flag designs and letterings back when they were considered "cool" back 20-25 years ago. To me, doing that is like hanging a picture of Stalin in your living room just because you needed a picture, and you had a framed Stalin picture in the back of your garage. Look ... if doing some homage Strat to those designs is really your thing, then by all means do it. I get that. But -- please for all that is good in this world -- don't do it just "just because" that is the design on the pickguard. There are other pickguards out there ...

Well I am not only doing it just because the pickguard has it but it is the pickguard that has inspired me to do it. I would rather do that on a worthless body I got for free then anything else. Trust me it won't be that hard to mask a few stripes and it will look amazing....granted if you like that design. I am not doing the lettering though, just doing kind of a mock "boogie body" thing since it will have a strat style Charvel neck anyhow. This will be the simplest build I have going right now..and the most inexpensive.
