So I traded a 2000 American Deluxe with no case and no candy that I picked up for $375.00 for a modded Mexican Hot Rod Deluxe, A vintage Rat and a Roadkill Pedal and also got the stock hot rod speaker + $350.00 cash! Then I traded The amp for this and got $150.00 to boot! As the story goes this Blizzard Pearl Strat was built to order by one of the luthiers in the Ensenada plant along with another guitar. I really cant see what's so cheap about it except the saddles are cut just a bit wide and the bridge is not exactly centered. So what is your guys opinions? Is their really an underground Mexican Fender Custom Shop? This is a very rare bird for a 2012 MIM. The man I got it from assured me it came this way ordered from the factory. It only cost me $200.00 so it's no big loss if it's not true. But, being that I only live around 200 miles from the plant and have spent much time in Ensenada I tend to believe the guy. The guitar plays great and I was able to set it up lower then any I have owned. I like it!

No, there is no Mexican custom shop. It is possible that a Fender employee in the Ensenada plant put this one together for himself, but I doubt that anyone "ordered" this from that factory. It looks like it has saddles for a 2-7/32" bridge put onto a 2-1/16" bridge, and a poorly cut nut. It is a nice looking guitar regardless, and certainly worth $200. 8)

It was ordered through a friend that worked at the factory is how the story goes.

Like the fabled Corvette story where the guy got it for $500 because a guy died and rotted in it...

It is what it is...

If it looks good, plays well and you're happy with the price, any associated story is unecessary.

I shudder to think what might come from an underground Ensenada Custom Shop  ... Air Suspension & Sparkle Paint...

cheers!

I don't know if it has the air ride, but it plays great.

+1

It looks like any one of the hundreds of partscasters that have been seen on this forum. I've seen worse......but I've seen much better as well.

Isn't there somewhere from Fender that you can get all the original specs for that serial number? It would be interesting to see if it is a Partscaster or (if the the story holds) it is actually bone stock. It would be worth knowing, as the guitar would be worth more if it truly is a one-off and bone stock.

I'm sure it's undocumented but I was just kinda tripping that if you know the right people, you can get a custom built guitar right out of the fender plant in Ensenada with hand selected parts or even custom made parts. Essentially a Mexican Custom Shop guitar. I'm going to have to get a passport and see if I can get a Custum Shop guitar direct from Fender Ensenada. LOL!!! Maybe I can get Fender to do a new line! I got a few ideas for the logo for the Mexi Custom Shop! Fender are you listening! Let's do it! I'll head the shop for ya!

That pickguard was on a 2005 Fender FSR graffiti yellow HSS strat I owned. Same as this one. The swirl detail doesn't show up in this picture but it's the same guitar and pickguard.

Another FSR HSS MIM Strat from 2005 with the same swirl pickguard.

Is that a joke? If so, it is kinda funny in a dark sorta way ...

But, seriously ... the thing HAS a serial number. And that serial number WILL be tied to some Fender configuration and manufacturing record, and -- I guarantee -- it won't say "special secret Ensenada custom Strat". It will have some specific configuration where you can see if it matches the guitar or not.

Extremely doubtful. No MIM Fender Strat is never going to appreciate in value, regardless of how "rare" or "special". This is especially true with the wrong saddles and poorly cut nut.

It might be worth more if the saddles and nut were corrected. That is, it could be worth about $300 to $350 dollars at best, if fixed.

It is still a nice Strat, and worth keeping and fixing up. :)

LOL!!! Yep it's probably un documented and built by Johnny Cash's long lost Mexican master luthier nephew one piece at a time. Then smuggled out of the shop to the USA! Like I say it would be nice to start a Mexican Custom Shop so We could get the killer Custom Shop Guitar for under $800.00! I'll be glad to re locate to get it started. ;) Cool Guitars! This is a 2012 and I have not found one exactly like this with the truss adjustment in the heal. I did see some early ones like posted but they were all sss's.

Possibly the neck is from a "Classic Series 60s" Strat, or a "Classic Player 60s" Strat, both have the truss rod adjust at the heel, both have the vintage style tuners, and both are MIM. The former will have a 7.25" radius, and the latter a 12" radius. It is hard to tell from the pics, but it looks like the flatter 12" radius. What is the radius on yours?

I still think it's a partscaster and my money says that neck (a 60's Classic Series) did not leave Ensenada attached to that MIM Standard Strat body.

+ 0.5

I suppose it could have been a FSR as ThriftStorePunk77's post suggests.

It's almost as easy to swap parts on these things as it is to tell a "story" about asking a guy at the factory to make it specially as requested.
