Well,Im looking for American Deluxe Strat as feature with outstanding tones and good playability.
The features of American Deluxe is a active/passive controller installed.
What is the difference between these two sounds (active and passive) ?What is their concept running for these two sounds ?
Hope every talented and experienced guitarlist and gear enthusiast can attach some video URL and leave some comment here.
Thanks a lot!!!

For me, I have two guitars with active electronics. I have a Clapton Strat with the mid-range boost circuit, and a home built Andy Summers Tele that has a pre-amp, which boosts the signal without muddying up the sound.

I found this insteresting link that I think might help.

When I think of active electronics, I tend to think in terms of what you'd find on an active bass guitar or an acoustic where the circuitry is part of the sound. In t his context you have a greater degree of tone control where you can boost and cut specific frequencies (BTW: Sadowski pre-amps are boost only)....not very common on electric guitar. Could be quite versatile, but not for me.

By all means correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the active/passive switch was only in the AmDlx basses..?

jmattis is correct; there is an active/passive circuit on the American Deluxe basses but not on the guitars.

The American Deluxe Series landing page lists some features of both guitars and basses - which can be confusing. For example, the "passing lane" is a feature only found on American Deluxe Strats with the bridge humbucker pickup. Similarly that "active/passive" switch is a feature only found on the basses.

While the American Deluxe Strats have various wiring settings they are all passive.

I own an American Deluxe Ash (Aged Cherry Burst) and it is totally passive.

Image

What it does have is the S1 Switching System that allows you to have 10 distinct tone configurations depending upon how you set the 5-way switch. The S1 System is controlled by a combination of the S1 Volume Switch and the 5-way Pickup Switch.

With the S1 Switch OFF (UP position), you get:

P5 - Neck Pickup only
P4 - Neck & Middle Pickup in parallel
P3 - Middle Pickup only
P2 - Middle & Bridge Pickup in parallel
P1 - Bridge Pickup only

With the S1 Switch ON (DOWN position), you get:

P5 - All three pickups in Series
P4 - Neck & Middle pickups in Series
P3 - Middle & Bridge pickups in Series
P2 - Neck pickup in Parallel/Middle & Bridge in Series
P1 - Bridge pickup in Parallel/Neck & Middle pickups in Series

Those options which are in Series have a significantly higher gain than those in Parallel, though the entire system is still passive.

It allows lots of different choices and lots of different sounds.

I also really like how it plays, great Compound Radius neck and the Ash Body seems slightly Brighter than my Alder '57.

cheers!

Unless you install yourself the Clapton circuit in the guitar.

But this mod could have conflicts with the existing circuitry:

1. You cannot combine the TBX & MDX controls with the Blower switch - the Blower disables the circuit leaving the humbucker full open within any position of the 5-way pickup selector.

2. The S1 switch cannot be used with the Elite electronics without some alterations. For more detailed information check out the following link: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=83838
