It sounds like Fender is rushing too many out the factory doors.

Or...could be like most other businesses these days have made cuts and expecting one to do the work of three. But that is just a hypothesis. I do know from experience that when you expect too much out of one person....the "mistakes" tend to increase proportionately..

I bought a 60th anniversary commemorative strat in February , first it didn't come with the commemorative book then after about a week of playing I noticed a very small ding on the top of the neck around the 9th fret and also one of the screws wasn't seated quite right on the output jack plate. But this didn't bother at all because the guitar is beautiful, I wouldn't swap it at all for anything.
I even went as far as looking for others on the net to compare and the wood grain looks different on mine, also it was packed with cardboard rather than foam at the ends which made me think maybe it was one of the earlier ones made and might explain why the book was missing.
Its a cliché but every guitar's different and the main thing does it play and sound good for me anyway. 8) If it does then you have special guitar.

I emailed both the dealer and Fender about this. The dealer replied and said they will get in touch with Fender themselves as they don't want a second guitar being returned to them which I can completely understand, especially when the problem lies on Fender's side. So hopefully Fender will deal with this but they are yet to reply. Talk about being an awkward customer!

Time to fire your dealer. They should have inspected the guitar and sent it back to Fender with that kind of noticeable finish flaw, not pass it along to their customer. Sure they could say that it shouldn't have passed inspection and have been sent to them - but I suspect Fender has some kind of standard for non-functional finish flaws before they reject a body.

Your dealer shouldn't be hassling you about wanting to return a guitar. Yes, it would be a warranty issue from Fender, but unless you had the guitar for longer than any agreed upon inspection period (I don't think that is the case as it from your original post that you just basically opened the box and noticed this issue) then they should take it back and they should deal with Fender.

I agree, most dealers i know inspect guitars for both quility and set up before sending to customer.

Well, after 3 guitars I decided to get a refund. First one had a crack in the finish just by the bridge. Second one had red paint under the finish. Third one also had similar cracks just next to the bridge, this time on both sides by the corners of the bridge and more noticeable. It's strange how I had the same problem on two different guitars, pretty disappointed really especially of thus supposed high quality american guitars live up to. I'm looking at a Mexican CS 50s strat now, perhaps the one with the nitro finish :D

That's really odd to have 3 bad ones, and 2 with the same problem.
I too would be really po'd and amazed that a MIA Strat isn't perfect.

The American made Strats, here in the states, have all been fantastic where ever I find and play them. The MIM's are also really nice, though they seem to need better set up, but that's not a major issue.
Getting a great MIM Strat is like finding a great Epiphone LP.
Sometimes you find one that's as good if not better than the higher priced ones.

Don't you have any shops out there where you can actually see and play the guitars and then pick one from those? I MUCH prefer seeing and playing the guitar I want.
I ordered my last 2 guitars, a Les Paul Standard +top, and ESP E2 Eclipse.
The LP went back, as did 2 of the ESP's.
Nothing wrong with ordering, but the place you order from has to have a no questions asked easy return policy.

Good shopping to you. I'm sure you'll find THE Strat for you. :)

I sort of feel like it could be some kind of issue which arises when they assemble the trem system at the factory. I'm guessing they attach the springs to the trem block before they put the strings on, meaning the bridge will be pressing hard against the finish thus cracking it.they should really put some protection where the bridge touches the finish if this is the case. I've decided to take a look at some at a local store to see if any have the same issue and if not I will get another, because it really is a lovely guitar!
