No, he never played one like this but he did play a few Strats over the years...

Well, it is a very cool guitar regardless. One of the great things about Strats is the ability to piece-part components into a unique guitar like this. This would be a fun guitar to rip on and play with all the sound choices. Cool build!

Thanks for the kudos... it was a really fun one to build. It was never going to be a dead knockoff (no pun intended  ) of one of Jerry Guitars, just an approximation. There are some folks who go bananas with gear and setting up clone rigs but I don't always play Dead/JGB music so I'm glad to have something with more versatility.

Regarding the Strat platform, it had some very necessary features built in which I needed to (more easily) for this project. One was the three knob and 5-way control layout. All I had to do was add three toggle holes and the electronics layout was done... it's a tad bit cramped but not too bad. Another thing the Strat has going for it is a decent sized control cavity... there's a lot of wires to cram in there on a project like this. Also, the trem cavity serves as a nice storage area for the preamp/buffer and battery, though this body has a battery compartment. Anyhow, I agree the modular construction of the Strat makes it a perfect choice for many projects.

Regarding this guitar, it's remarkably versatile. The Dimarazio pickups are fantastic sounding clean and also handle effects and OD/Distortion extremely well. Split, they have a great twangy/country tone and as humbuckers with the tone rolled off they can easily go to jazz land. I think a lot of folks think these pickups are for hard rock, old metal, etc but they're great for all genres of music. Well... I'm going to get back to playing, enough typing!

What an awesome guitar! That's a great idea putting Jerry's inspired electronics in a strat body when you could've just bought a Phred clone. Nice job. You should put a video up on YouTube going through some of the features.

Here are a couple of videos of the guitar in action... not really a demo of the features but they give you a pretty good idea of the overall sound of the guitar. Cheers... 8)
