I own a Deluxe Players Strat. I'm interested in replacing the vintage style tremelo bridge with the modern one used on my American Deluxe Strat. I've read elsewhere that it is possible to replace just the saddles, but that will not apply here because I want to go from gold finish to chrome. So I'm wondering if the newer style bridge is a direct replacement that I can pop in with minimal fuss. I'm also looking to update the tuners down the road. Are the newer tuners a la American Deluxe Strat a direct replacement, i.e., do they use the same size holes and are the screw holes located in the same place? Thanks.

The American Deluxe Strat uses the newer two-point trem bridge.

You'll have your work cut out for you.

I have converted a few and it is not that hard. All you need is the correct size drill bit with depth stop or marker, make 2 holes, and press in the anchor inserts. Granted I would not want someone unskilled to drill into anyone's strat it is not a very labor intensive process to convert from standard bridge to the 2 point. Also it is very easy to chip the paint where you drill so you need to use certain techniques such as masking and starting the hole in reverse to cut down the chances.

I have used both style of these tremolos and I just can't see where the cost and effort would justify it at all.

A new set of saddles could do all you need it to do.

On my Mexican strat I dropped in a Guitar fetish Import spaced bell brass unit, at less then 40 bucks it was worth every penny, it added to the tone and sustain. It still uses the stock type Fender saddles, and had yet to break a string.

You might wanna give it a try, and yes they have them in gold.

I would post a link but it seems inappropriate to advertise them here.

PM me if you have a problem find this site.

It depends on the player. Me personally never uses the trem and none of my trem models even have the bar anymore. However for someone who does like using the trem and does not care for the vintage look the 2 point is worlds better as far as action and staying in tune. And you can pick up a new or like new genuine fender 2 point bridge complete with contemporary saddles and block for 30 to 50 bucks on ebay if you watch for them. So there really is not a cost or effort issue....again assuming the person installing it knows how to drill 2 holes.
