I have the Fat 50's in a custom-built ash-bodied hardtail Strat and the guitar plays perfectly. The pickups are an older set that measured precisely to published specs. Perhaps Fender is winding those coils differently now......?

Well the good news is you know your particular strat is not a defect. But on the other side of the coin I guess you could say they all have the same "defect" if it is really that much of a problem. I do have a bone stock 2002 American Standard that I am repainting. Once I get it done I will check to see if mine does the same thing. Granted I stripped all the poly off the neck and body to go with nitro I don't think that would make a difference if this problem is electronic related.

Instead of lowering the poles for the G string, I would try to raise them. A shorter distance should provide more dampening.

But I guess there could be some effect of the B string having a much lower pole (for good reason) too - the G and E strings may swing more freely in the horizontal direction as a result, and as the G string is heavier, it's more pronounced.

What about checking on the tuners side ? May be due to the fact that the G-string tuner is now shorter ? Had to level the frets and install a second string tee for D and G strings on my 2012 strat to finally get everything ok.

With it happening only from 12th fret and higher, I think we can safely take the tuner out of the question.

Since I am off work this week,I have played this thing almost nonstop the last two days. I am normally more of a Les Paul guy, but damn I am really getting hooked on this Strat!

It's funny how a player learns to adapt to a guitar, neck shape, what pickup sounds good for what type of riff etc...

I am really not having much problem with the original issue. I find that I tend to be bending the g string a lot, or not hanging on one note on the g string above the 12th for very long, so it really isn't bothering me, nor is it noticeable. I talked to a friend on the phone this morning, he has a couple of Strats and I was telling him about this issue, he calls me back and said his does it too! His strats are older guitars. He told me "thanks a lot, I never noticed until you brought it up, now I notice it!" . LOL glad I could share the love Matt! :D
