Hello,

Please excuse me if this sounds extremely silly, as this is the first time I've restrung an electric guitar and cannot find anything regarding this bridge specifically. I recently bought this guitar off a friend who is moving abroad, and only had a bass previously.

I have two questions, the first being, am I missing these four metal pieces holding the strings right before the ends? The second is, how do I get them out? I'm not sure if it's just the end pieces stuck in the blocks because they're plastic, or if I should be able to take the round metal heads out to get the ends of the strings out. I am only having problems with these two strings (hence the broken end sticking out)

Would greatly appreciate any help.

Mac

It would be best to just replace that bridge.

Hi there that is a deluxe locking bridge these normally have a trem cover with no holes because there is no need to thread the string thru the back of the guitar.
I am betting you have a deluxe hss strat.
The string ends are normally cut off and held in by the allen screws some of which appear to be missing as already mentioned.
To get the broken ones out undo the allen screws at the back.
Either find some parts which will be difficult and expensive or replace the bridge.
Maybe try selling the old bridge as is... they are now hard to come by :D

Just to add these bridges have been out of production since about 2007 - turning one up on ebay is about your only choice to replace it with the same model bridge as all replacement parts for them (and entirely new bridges) have been out of stock at Fender since about 2008. That being said there are several replacement bridges that will fit the posts (from Fender and from some other hardware companies).

John, wouldn't he be able to replace the missing intonation screws, if that's what they are, with standard screws?

Just wondering, how is the intonation set on these bridges?

I think as I previously stated the top screws lock the string in, the screws on the underside are for intonation.
I do not know the gauge, sure you could use a screw with the same thread but where are the bits that the screws drive into to lock the string in place?
Probably gone west like the screws.... :D

I think he could find the allen screws but not the round pieces that actually lock the strings into the bridge. He might not find the proper length screw but he could cut them down. Unfortunately that won't help him much without the other components.

He would really be better off finding a replacement bridge - I just don't see this bridge staying in tune with any serious trem use as-is.

I have NO experience with those bridges and didn't notice the missing string locking posts.

Looks like the Am Std 2 point Tremolo would be a direct replacement and MUCH less expensive.

Heck, the OP can probably sell the old one for parts and come out of it clean as a whiskle! :D

macmark95, take one of the two machine screws left to your local hardware store and see if they have some that match in size, length, and threads.
If they do, then as for the round metal slugs, you could just use Fender Bullet Strings with the side where the string comes out down, just push it into the saddle hole, then tighten the machine screw to the bullet.
