Quite a while ago I played a strat that was pretty amazing compared to all the others I have played. It was american, sunburst, unfinished maple neck and fret board with a thicker profile than any other guitar I played that day.also the guitar was way lighter than all the rest.it was around 1600 if I remember correctly.the neck felt amazing.i have a Mexican strat so I know it's not a "c" shaped neck.now that I'm in a position to buy a new strat I've gone into a few music shops but they didn't have a guitar with that shaped neck.anyone know what model it could have been?maybe a 50's reissue?i really wish I could have bought it because it sounded so good and felt even better in my hands.lol..

No,not a srv model.it had an unfinished maple neck with maple fretboard.i think it may have been a soft v neck.something like a 57 reissue maybe? Next time I go in to look around I'm going to try a Clapton model( if they have one ) and the srv model. Last few times I've gone in,selection wasn't that great.lots of squires,Mexicans ect, with the c shape.

Satin finished V-neck with a maple fingerboard - most likely it was either the old Hot Rod '57 model or one of the American Deluxe V-neck models. They both are/were about $1,600.

The Hot Rod '57 was replaced by a different model last year - the "Hot Rod '50s" model that has a different neck shape (a "D" shape) and had a price increase up to $2,300 - in the same range as the current AV series.

Ok,thanks..I don't go into music shops much except for strings(nothing local around here).I haven't spent much time experimenting with different guitars( higher end fenders).ive had my mexi strat for about 5 years now and really only familiar with the modern c profile.im happy with it but was really suprised how comforable that other strat felt.i find that I play with my thumb over the top quite a bit.after a bit of research, alot of people seem to recommend a v shape for that style of grip so im thinking that might have been the profile it had.I've never been able to get that guitar out of my mind.im considered buying either new or used but need to get a better understanding of the neck profiles fender offers.

Okay, I see what your saying, maybe it was a Road worn 60's model.....

No,it wasn't a road worn.ive tried a few road worn series guitars( both maple and rosewood fretboard), I liked them both.only thing I didn't really like was the fake wear.any strats with the same specs/nitro finish as the road worn but without the fake wear?

Boy, then I am stumped, other then to say, it sounds like one you should have bought.

Can you go back to the store and ask them?

A Jimmie Vaughan model might do ya, sunburst without the wear and nice soft V neck profile.

Lol...like I said,I played a ton of strats that day and that one guitar just felt and sounded so different and better than all the rest...I wish i had the cash to buy it and think about it all the time but didn't have the cash.lol..anyways,I'm getting old and my interests in music have mellowed out a bit.i recently sold off most of my late 80s/early 90s ibanez rg collection so I could buy a new fender strat but Ive also been scoping out telecasters..not in a hurry as I'm enjoying my mexi-strat.after all the research I've done I'm thinking it was an American vintage reissue model that fender doesn't make any more.
As far as asking at the store,it's a " big chain store" and they don't really seem to be all that helpful..the salesmen kinda have the buy what we have on the wall and leave me alone attitude.lol..

Thanks,It's on the list of guitars to check out.ive been doing a bit of research to get a better understanding of the guitars fender offers.theres so many.I havnt totally committed to sunburst.the nitro sunburst just has that cool vintage vibe. :? ..before I got my mexi strat I thought I wanted a rosewood fretboard but ended up really liking the maple fretboard..Im thinking a guy needs at least a few guitars at all times to be content.lol...I'm down to three and am kinda excited to add a new one to the collection.ive been thinking about maybe picking up a couple used instead of buying one brand new one..like I said,I want a strat but the more I look at telecasters.......well,you know.lol..

Yeh, I know, I know. :D

I'm on the downside of the curve, gonna sell some nice ones and see what comes my way.

I put a Jimmie Vaughan neck on my Strat "Custom Build" and love it. Filled my hand nicely, soft V, more shoulder than a Clapton, real nice feel.

Let us know when you make a decision.

- Dan

I get that from time to time, but once you flash the cash the saleguys usually will run over themselves to help......If not a manager type will get it done for you. The large stores will from time to time buy a special run (FSR) and it might have been one of those.

I hope you find one, I kinda want to see what it was.
