I have a Strat from about 2004 (I think). It does not have a serial number on the neck plate or the head stock.i took the neck off to adjust the truss rod, and I found BL-134 on the neck and ST-62D on the body. There was green paint splattered on the neck near the serial number, and the guitar body is black. There is also lacquer coating the head stock that isn't coating the neck. Any help would be appreciated!

It sounds like a Japanese model. Can you see where the serial number might have been (back of the neck where it bolts to the body)?

You can't see the serial numbers without taking off the neck.

There is no marking on the neck like that. The only marking is visible when the neck is removed.

Thanks for the picture of where one usually finds the serial number on Japanese Fenders.

You shouldn't have to take anything apart to see the serial number. Numbers you find on the parts are usually stock codes, part numbers, some dates maybe.

Do you think that the neck went to a different guitar?

That might a reasonable assumption.

The neck from your guitar is from a Japanese made Squier Bullet 1 circa 1983-84. These were made in the famous Fujijen plant and except for the decal, are identical to Fender Stratocaster necks from the same era. They were marked "Made in Japan" on the headstock, so my guess is the logo was sanded off. The original body on these was a not a typical Bullet body but a full-size strat body with two single coil pickups, although it was probably routed for three. Yours is likely not the original body but ST-62 is consistent with a Japanese 60s reissue.
