This is kinda like a trainwreck you just can't look away from.

The below are pictures of a "custom relic" being sold by a small guitar builder for $900. I am not posting a link to the ad because it does not deserve it. How wrong is this???

Their words, not mine:
"- Custom, boutique, late 60's, CBS era
- Unknown make 3-piece body. Has exact Fender specs
- Pickups are built from scratch, scatterwound, and calibrated in-house ... These pickups are nearly identical to '62 Strat singles
- Tuners are period correct "F-style"
- Has authentic, period-correct, working, 3-bolt, micro-tilt neck set-up
- Yes, it nails SRV"

Unknown body make and the pickups are nearly identical :!:

I just want to know...as a non-smoker...does anyone really put a burning cigarette under the strings above the nut and leave it there to burn off the finish?

Really? Is it really that bad of an addiction? Is it too much trouble to put it out until the next break?

Oh yeah...nice attempt at a guitar...Is that $900 US or Hong Kong?

Somehow it should be illegal to do THAT to a guitar! Even a partsocaster!

I have seen Eric Clapton and Eddie Van Halen do this, and I think Pete Townsend. They did not just leave it there to burn off the finish, usually drugs and alcohol contributed to it being forgotten!

If there's no ashtray, where do you stub it out? The drummer's cymbals?

I've had cigarette butts on strings above the nut before, but that has always been to dampen the ringing.
The f-hole on a thinline is nice for putting your stash in, though...

I just watched a video of Frank Zappa doing the thing with the cigarette. I think a lot of guitarist have done it over the years...

No, I would not pay $900 for that guitar. The tuners look nice. The rest of it is questionable. Any Fender parts? That neck isn't (12th fret markers are too far apart and the contours on the back of the headstock are wrong). Crazy!

Not really. You can tell that someone already tried that, but it didn't catch too well.

Looks like it's somewhat fire resistant, seeing how someone apparently tried to set it on fire a few times, and one of those times if not all, must have been with a cigarette.
