The easiest thing to do would be to remove "Squier", add "Fender", charge more money. Rarely are fakes done well, or done as expected, which is good for us.

I would still like to hear from John C, and would defer to his expertise in this area.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the likelyhood of someone spending the money to fake a guitar worth $400 max is pretty low. Maybe I'm wrong, but if someone fakes something, they're going to try to fake the big stuff.

OP says this guitar has been his for years, nobody faked Korean Stratocasters back then, and even now it's minuscule at max.

About low budget fake , that I was thinking , why copy low budget guitar ?

I receive many answer about low budget fake guitar , Fender , Epiphone ......Yes this happen :(
Is it because beginner who buy low budget guitar did not know guitar ?

I see what you mean shimmilou. I have never seen MIK Squire so nothing to compare to but it does seem feasible.

Being able to remove a local area of varnish and match it perfectly though just to sand off Squire and make a few more bucks - Seems unlikely. Ever had a touch up on a car? Never quite perfect. If you are going to the effort to remove a Squire decal, why stop there and not change the MIK?

I've got a hunch that yours is a Fender Squier like mine. I'm thinking the Squier logo may be removed, like mine lol.

Still, it's a beautiful axe, and anyone would be lucky to have her.

Ah, there's the trick. You don't have to match anything if you over-spray the whole headstock when done changing the decal, it would seem to "match" perfectly.

I am going to vote for "not fake" in this discussion.
It is not hard to find others online:

It looks like one of these MIK Fender Squier series Strats with the ''Squier Series' bit removed.

Not far off it. The MIK bit is below the Strat logo on mine - not the Fender logo as in this example. The SN is also a different font and color.
