I just bought this MIM 95 strat off craigslist w/ tex mex pickups. The serial number is on the back of the neck, which is odd compared to all the pics i've seen. Can someone help me verify it and let me know what it's worth? Thanks!

It is what it is though a previous owner has modded the trem cover -- presumably to make string changes easier.

That's the standard serial-number location for most MIM Strats. The "MN5" prefix indicates an instrument made in 1995.

I believe it's what was called a "Tex-Mex Strat", which was the forerunner of the Jimmy Vaughn signature model. They're fine guitars.

I thought the same when I saw the decal, tuners and pups. I believe that '95 was the year that they started putting the sn on the back of the headstock.

If you deck your bridge you have issues changing strings.

Yeah it's a Tex-Mex strat. Nice guitars. I have one in Daphne Blue. I had a yellow one before too. They also had Tex-Mex Teles.

hi there.
Well the Serial number WITH the letters doesnt track in our system......however, the serial number WITHOUT the letters (data input peoples---sigh) does come up......
as a Strat Special maple neck in CRT (Crimson Red Trans or Crimson Burst) completed 4/27/95 and sold to a dealer in NY.

(It looks like the right color----it looks like the right neck. Someone may have changed out the pickguard assembly. )
OR its not the same and the serial just doesnt track.

****Later Edit*****
With later posts correcting me-------not CRT at all.
So either not trackable and off of our "grid" or a partscaster as arjay suggests.
mea culpa!
********
best,
rob

Compared to the pics, that factory documentation seems to suggest that the OP's guitar is a partscaster, Rob.

looks like a pickguard assembly swap to me.....but again.....the actual serial didnt track but just the numbers did ...for 3 different products, by the way. The one mentioned....a Squier Series export model in Torino Red and a Frontman amp. By the pics, it looks like the more likely.
Also depends on what you define as a partscaster i suppose. A pickguard assy swap doesnt seem all that unnatural or unusual to me.
Cheers,
rob

;O) probably more of a senior moment on mine. Upon reflection (fancy way of saying i looked again) it does look more 3 sunburst doesnt it?

So it looks like this one either just doesnt track-----which happens.....
or what arjay said......apologies for my evidently red tinted pupils!!! jeeez.

No sweat, Rob.

Be prepared for an ever-increasing number of those "senior moments" though.
