Hey guys, I am in dire need of some help.
I have a 2004 Deluxe Series Strat with a built in active system/preamp with all the stock pieces on it with no modifications. The problem in question is that my bridge tone knob when set at ten doesn't let much sound through, but increases volume/gain all the way down to one. I've taken it to a repair guy and he can't seem to find anything wrong with it, yet I've had this guitar for 7 years and not had any problems with it! I'm not very familiar with electronics so I can't take a look at it myself.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I did not see any American Deluxe Serie with active system / preamp in 2004 Fender frontline catalog .

Active system need battery , you have one in your guitar ? Sure of that ?

1- Sure of the year ?
2-Is active is factory built / installed by Fender ?
3-Sure it is american Deluxe series ?
Any pictures ?

By the way your repair man is unqualified . He may be good in acoustic guitar ( is he ?) but unqualified in electronics .

Please answer to questions .

It's a Mexican Strat, not American, just to clarify. I'm not sure if the preamp was factory installed, although it looks to be done very professionally - and the serial number on the headstock indicates it's a 2004 model.
He's been doing work for around 20 years or so in my city, on both electrics and acoustics so I don't doubt he is qualified to do the work. I've checked the battery and it's fine, even replaced it with a new one and the problem is still occurring.

I'll be able to post some pictures later in the day.
Thanks for responding.

I'm not sure if the preamp was factory installed, Why do you write "it is all stock pieces " ?

You have no doubt is qualified !!! Why he can't fix it ? What do you need to understand he is not qualified

It is all stock meaning that nothing has been tempered with, modified or changed since I bought it. I can't give you further details on it because I know nothing of electronics, other than what I've said already.
Again, thanks.

Hi there hard to tell without eyeballing your strat and taking some measurements.
This issue sometimes can be caused by a dud cap on the tone control shorting to ground but would also affect the mid assuming the pot is in circuit for this pickup as well.
Does the second tone work ok with the mid pickup? i.e. you hear a noticeable change in tone when using it?
I would recommend you get it seen to by someone familiar with electronics who also knows something about guitars.
It would be difficult to diagnose the fault without having it in hand so to speak.
Hope this helps. :D

By any chance, is this guitar a Deluxe Powerhouse Strat?

If so, the symptoms seem to indicate a malfunctioning (or dead) pre-amp module. On these guitars the "bridge tone control" actually regulates the gain boost and when set at "10" (with a bad pre-amp) will likely pass a minimal signal to the guitar's output jack. At "1" the pre-amp is bypassed, allowing the pickups to perform in their traditional passive mode.

We need some detailed pics of this instrument for identification purposes and a comprehensive diagnosis.

I hope the OP will give us some pics -- without them, there's really not a lot to go on.
