Does anybody know how many of the "reclaimed wood" guitars were made? The web site says "limited run" but doesn't give numbers.

I'm betting not too many.
If you want one, you better jump on it.

Reclaimed wood means wood that was salvaged from an old building or structure, or pulled up from a lake bottom.

In the Redwoods case, There was a bridge built in Bakerfield California in the 1930's made from Redwood. When they replaced the bridge in 2012, the redwood was salvaged and sold to Fender.
It's all written on there website.

+1

The supply of reclaimed lumber is finite. And the better-looking pieces will be the first to become guitar bodies.

Beware that pine and redwood aren't generally known as good tonewoods unless really thin.
I'm also a bit skeptical to the price. Is having a knothole enough to justify almost twice the price?

I do like it.

I especially like the redwood Strat, including the channel-bound fingerboard and the laser-cut headstock logo. (Goodbye, fake decals!) The guitar on the website clearly has a one-piece body too, which I regard as sonically meaningless but aesthetically pleasing:

Thank goodness I'm not in the market for a new Strat at the moment, or I could be strongly tempted by that one. I hope their stock of this timber is very small, they'll all be gone quickly, and temptation won't linger into the future, when my wallet may be fuller and my self-control slacker... :)

Cheers - C

Agreed - but the 21 frets is a down check for the redwood model you are referring to. I know that some people could take or leave the 22nd fret, but I'd never buy another guitar without one.

Yep, you're right. I'm guessing that's a consequence of the channel-bound fingerboard construction. At least, I don't think I've seen a channel-bound 'board with 22 frets, though I stand to be corrected.

I regard the channel-binding thing as utterly cosmetic and of no player importance whatsoever. It addresses a problem that doesn't exist. It is frivolous.

And I think it's beautiful, and a uniquely Fender development! Not so long ago it would have been so hard to achieve with consistent factory production as to be effectively impossible: now with modern CNC methodology it's easy.

I love it, and I'm itching to talk myself into buying a guitar with that style of neck!

Cheers - C

Perhaps.

But oh-so-pretty......like a conventionally-bound fretboard on a Strat, Jaguar, or Jazz Bass.

Pure craftsmanship.

I like the color and look, especially the neck! But both Pine and Redwood are VERY soft woods, not sure how they are going to hold up to heavy vibrato use :?: But it ought to "Relic" up just nice.
