Yep TBX treble bass expander fitted to standards, strat pluses at least, from about 87 onwards. Also fitted as retrofit by modders.

Heres a bit of info.

Just to add to Al 87: The TBX remained on the American Standard until sometime in the 1996-1998 era. Fender's data says 1998, but there are some who have 1996s and 1997s that have the no-load pot instead of the TBX. Also I don't believe the TBX was ever on the Lone Star, Roadhouse or Big Apple models. The TBX continued to be used on the Strat Plus/Plus Deluxe/Ultra throughout their model lives (discontinued in early 1998 but some were produced to fill orders throughout that year).

............and on the Clapton Artist Series since inception in 1988.

There were also many other signature models which sported the TBX circuit: Matthias Jabs, Richie Sambora, Buddy Guy and James Burton. The Duff P-Bass is actually the only bass boasting that feature.

Both Teambuilt and Masterbuilt EC Customs shared a normal 250K tone pot since 2004.

Per Clapton's personal request the TBX was added on the Teambuilts in 2009.

+1

These guitars were introduced in 1997 which marked the switch to the Delta-Tone pickup system.

I didn't throw in the Clapton since it wasn't based on the American Standard; the other models were.

The Lone Star came out in 1996; the Roadhouse and Big Apple were later (end of '96/start of '97) so at least the Lone Star crossed over the TBX era.

The American Standards from that era came with AlNiCo V single-coils sporting flushed polepieces.
With the introduction of the American Series in 2000 Fender switched to custom-staggered poles before the change to Custom Shop pickups in 2012.

The only thing to interject here is that TBX does not stand for treble bass expander. The pot is passive, not active. Only an active circuit can expand anything. The acronym actually stands for treble bass cut. With 5 being the center, or nul, point, rolling the knob one way cuts treble, rolling it the other cuts bass.

Probably a bit of confusion with the EMG EXG pot which increases lows and highs simultaneously while reducing midrange. Their RPC provides a low cut, high boost. Their SPC a midboost but not to the level of Fender's.

Quite correct, think most folks know that unless a battery and some extra circuitry are involved guitar controls are passive rather than active, "treble bass expander" is a slight misnomer oft repeated on websites (and myself on this occasion)

Treble bass cut is a better description, Fender apparently use the x to indicate the word cut.

cheers Al
