I was once in Fez in Morocco, which is a town famous for its leather industry. One shop in the bazaar was selling guitar straps which looked very nice: I made a mental note to go back and pick up a couple.

Later I went to see a tannery: it was about two acres of big stone vats filled with leather soaking in human urine. The stink was extreme, like tear gas. Turns out, that's the traditional method of tanning leather.

I "forgot" to pick up any of those guitar straps.

Be civilized, play the guitar. Don't pee on it. :wink:

I will have to agree with my fellow Strat comrades on this one,
Just like a good wine that is aged over years, the amount of sweat and the journey that you put your guitar through tells a story and gives the guitar character. You should let time take its course with your strat instead of making it artificial. Would you be proud of a Strat that shows it is a veteran or a poser Strat that was dolled up to give the impression that it is a battle tested solider? I would opt for option #1 for it is more rewarding.
