I saw a CraigsList ad for 2 American Standard Strats that seem to be from 93-94, based on the one serial number that is visible. He's asking $400 each. His photos are not good, but he gave me his address to come by and check them out. I'm not sure that I can spot a fake or a frankenstrat. Any opinions on whether these are real or do they have tell tale signs of being fakes? Any advice on what to look for would be much appreciated. Here is the ad: http://gainesville.craigslist.org/msg/4442889305.html

One of the two aforementioned guitars is a fake.

Thanks. I'm guessing that you are referring to the black one, with the weird body shape. Anyone have thoughts on the white one?

Those pictures are awful.
If you aren't sure what to look for, you should take a pass, IMO.

Although from the photos it is hard to tell I do not see a two point trem on either guitar so i suspect they are both fake. :D

This. Although the photos are horrendous, the black one is quite obviously so. The white Strat almost looks legit (at least the neck does), but if it's a genuine '93 or '94 American Standard, it should have a silver colored transition style logo rather than the spaghetti script (which would be from '96 onward). It MAY be a parts guitar and might even have some actual Fender components on it although the bridge appears to be not orinal. It might be worth a look, but buyer beware. The montage of photos is a bit confusing/misleading.

I just bought a 2002 American Deluxe HSS from CL yesterday for $575. I used to be skeptical that people would find deals like this... you know "too good to be true".

However, here she is.

I usually never seem to be able to get deals like this but I just lucked out.

Here is the funniest part. I literally just bought another 2002 Sunburst 3 days ago.

Let me be the first to say how jealous I am of your score and congrats. Just goes to show that there are some truly amazing deals to be had out there.
