Didn't want to hijack the other thread so I thought I'd start this one based on this comment:

I think everyone should try and own a guitar from either their birth year or when they started.

I've been playing since 2010, so it looks like I'll go with the birth year. :P

I've been trying, but what was good from 1981? That's when I first started playing. My first guitar was a black squier strat from Johnny Thompson music in Monterey Park, CA. I have long since sold it off but I've been contemplating the acquisition of one of a squire from '81 simply for nostalgic reasons. Where Squiers from that year any good? Or would it end up as a wall hanger strat? And if your wondering why not a guitar from the year I was born? Well, I can't afford a '69 strat. :(

I'd either need a 1979, or a 1994. If it's a fender, I'd much rather a 1994 Strat. I actually got my first guitar for Christmas 1993 but took lessons short after in the new year :)

Actually, technically it's 1993 so here's my 1993 Strat Plus  :

Ha, interesting question being posed, this thread deserves a better title!

Nice Plus there Blertles.

I'd need either a '48 Broadcaster, a '69 Acoustic or a '09 Strat.

The first is a birth year, the 2nd my intro to stringed instruments and the last my first electric guitar.

At this time I've got an '83 MIJ Electra, '93 Strat Plus, '03 Am Dlx Strat and my prized Stratopartster made in - you guessed it - '13!

BTW, I trade ALL of them for a Broadcaster in good condition, just sayin'. :)

I really couldn't think of a better title, I'm open to suggestions?

Ahhh, me either socal323, but I'm an old guy who's getting ready for bed at 10:30 on a Sat Night. :)

How about: Do You Own a Personal Anniversary Guitar?

That sounds a little clumsy and I'm not sure if you can change the title.

Goodnight, yawn, hehe

Since my year of birth is 1943 and Fender guitars did not exist, guess I'll never own one from that year

I first picked up a guitar in 1961 and I do have a 1962 Jazzmaster. :D

I don't own a guitar from my birth year, not even close.
But I wouldn't mind a Strat from my birth year, or most years, actually.

Looks like my memory is slipping a little. You got me thinking and although I may have started taking guitar lessons when i was still in middle school, which was either 1980-81, I think my dad didn't get me that strat till a year later. If I remember correctly he put it on lay away and I couldn't wait for him to pay it off so we could pick it up. I wanna say the price was either $199 or $299, I don't remember which. Does that sound about right for a squier from the early 80's?

Boy how time flies.

I have a birth year guitar, a 1985 mij 62 custom tele. I also have the first guitar I ever brought, a Fender acoustic from around 2000, though it's been retired for now.

Fender was started in '46, although Leo was in business before that under another name, with a partner, so that can't be a "Fender" if it's from '43.
