Such heresy is all yours to enjoy.

I'll never own one.

It is great guitar, but just a guitar, and Leo was a great man, but just a man.

So 1966 is where the rot set in then.

I happen to like the 2 point tremolo system - properly set up it's very smooth and dependable in operation, although I will add that I'm talking about the bridge in the Am Deluxe.
Not really tried one on a standard Strat.

Leo himself went 2 point with the G&L guitars.

I agree that abandoning steel for blocks and saddles should never have happened - my Deluxe has a steel block and I think it has stainless steel saddles.
My Mex has had a replacement steel block fitted (a Fender one), although the saddles are original.

I remember when the Smith era guitars started landing - they looked odd with their jack being mounted on the scatchplate and with only one tone control.
They also had an odd tremolo unit - was it the Flyte?
Yeah, didn't really like them.

In my opinion, they should have gone the opposite way, to better metals than steel, like tungsten. Not as quick to mill, and pretty unbendable, but rather more solid than steel, and improves sustain.
Floyd Rose sells tungsten blocks as an upgrade option.
