Finally landed one of these in cherry condition. It's damn near perfect! even still has some of the plastic from the pick guard cover stuck under the knobs and screws!!! LOL guess whoever took it off didn't know you can remove them before peeling it off!!! Sounds and plays as good as it looks! Oh happy days! LOL Tanqueray & Tonics for everyone! Drinks on me!

Nice Score. I have only seen and played one of these (new out of the box mind you) and for some reason it played much more smoothly than any other American Standard I have ever tried. Seems they took their time with these or I just got to play an exceptional one. Either way play it like you stole it.

Its probably smoother to play because of the botanicals in the paint ;) juniper berries really round out the tone I think.

Wow that is so cool, the colour looks like the mushy peas they serve down at the chippy
:D

Ive played a few over the years including "oldies" but my 87 standard is hands down my fave guitar of all time.

Enjoy and keep that baby forever!

Great Score!

I had one of these and traded it a few years back for a Custom Shop 57....Interesting story behind these, not sure if everyone is aware. Tanqueray was promoting the Princes Trust Concert in the UK. First prize was an all expenses paid trip for two to the concert. Second prize was one of I believe 200 Tanqueray Green stratocasters! They were delivered in cardboard boxes no cases! Third prizes were small ornamental coffee table mirrors in the shape of you guessed it green starts!

Again great score enjoy the green...in hindsight I should have kept mine.

Thanks guys! I remember the magazine adds for this promotion. This was the year I started playing guitar! 1988! It may just be the feel reminds me of those early years or it just may be that it's a fantastic guitar! Or maybe both! Lol either way I thank the person who left it unmolested for 25 years so that I could enjoy it and use it up! Lol

I think everyone should try and own a guitar from either their birth year or when they started.

I've been playing since 2010, so it looks like I'll go with the birth year. :P

Yeah well I was born in the '70's and I think the only good electrics from that era were the tele thinline and the tele custom, and I have them both! Lol had a couple les Paul's from the 70's and the Norlan era were dogs lol but the late 80's for strats were pretty amazing!
