I have two Fender Road Worn HSS Players Strats in Red. One has a few more scratches and belt buckle dents than the other one, both are almost new. Did Fender vary the degrees of scratches, nicks, and dings in these guitars or were they pretty consistent? One has zero belt buckle wear, the other has significant belt buckle dents, no paint gone, just little lines all over that area.

i think you can answer that question yourself, since you have the same two models..... and they have different numbers of dents and scratches. It would be pretty impossible to consistently replicate the exact number of features on a paintwork, unless Fender has some sort of press machine that adds a distress onto the paint/wood. And i seriously doubt they do.

One was purchased new from a music store, the other used from a guy on Ebay claiming that it is in excellent condition. Of course the Ebay guitar is the one with more dents and scratches, but how do I know if they were factory or from player wear? It's hard to distinguish. Also, the guy removed the Pearly Gates pickup and put in something else and didn't share that with me. And I like the Pearly Gates pickup :x

It sounds like you're asking: is there a correct amount of relicing? I would say no and I seriously doubt Fender has a pattern for the workers to follow.
Some guys wear big belt buckles, others don't. I wouldn't sweat the little stuff.
Now, the pearly gates not being in the guitar is a big thing that should have been disclosed.

It's sounds to me like one is an official Fender Road worn strat and the other is an official Owner Road worn strat.

I am submitting a dispute through Paypal about the guitar at he moment. Of course he owns some type of music store and isn't answering his phone and isn't responding to emails. If worse comes to worse I will have to file a claim and go after him. Yes the subtraction of the Pearly Gates the main factor, and the back plate missing, and no Trem bar, which are both unique to the Road Worn models. This is my first Ebay guitar. I would have purchased a new one but unfortunately Fender no longer builds the HSS Players model. I have 9 Strats and the one my student left for me to play is becoming one of my favorites.

Just before the synthesized female voice in the new Lexus that sounds too "butch" and just after the state-of-the-art espresso machine that makes too much foam.

Did you look up the seller's feedback rating ?
I have bought on E-Bay and that is my 1st check.. If it is lower than 95% I would not consider buying from that seller unless there is total disclosure and 100% guarantee of return...
As they say " Caveat Emptor "

As far as my guitar is too reliced.... Now that is amusing
But did you not ask questions from the seller before buying :?:

He finally did respond to me and I sent the guitar back. I did talk with a guy from Fender and the scratches and dents varied from one guitar to the next. It was the missing parts that bothered me, no Trem bar, no back plate, and those are special worn parts that you can't replace with standard parts. The pickup being replaced with who knows what was the final straw. I ordered a used-like new model from Musicians Friend for the same price has this guy had for his guitar with missing and replaced components.
