Can you power a cab with a 4 watt amp?

How loud does it get? (both alone and with a cab)

How is the gain?

My local store carries these and they're always cutting me a deal. I'm really considering one now, but not until I get these questions out of the way.

Most of your questions can only be answered by trying it out at your "local store", but I suppose you want to walk in somewhat prepared. :D

I used to own a little H&K Cream Machine and the Crunch Master, which were pre-amps around 4W. They needed a boost to power speaker(s).

I used a Behringer Tube Ultragain MIC200 to boost their signal and power a Vintage Jensen 10" speaker. With a real 12ax7 tube, Gain & Output (volume) controls, 16 Preamp voices, Phantom power, Limiter, Guitar or Microphone in/outputs, it's pretty versatile.

Especially useful if you're an experimenting type who will run into this conundrum the rest of your musical life.

Here's one with a good description on ebay for $43.99 inc. s&h. Sometimes you find them used.

The Behringer comes in handy anytime you need a signal boost. Right now I have to use it after my pedal board into a Microcube to overcome the signal degradation.

I'm sure there are a lot of pre-amps out there, this is what I stumbled across and it worked for me.

I got a Mooer 5W - and hooked to a 2x12 cab it's helluvaloud.
I've played (& liked) an AC4 - for practice use the full power setting is LOUD.

As a very generalized IMHO opinion: you get tube distortion to rock/blues sounds, but not heavy rock/metal sounds - so get a pedal (or many of them) for that.
So for an allaround practice amp, consider the modeling amps - Fender Mustangs, Roland MicroCubes, Vox Minis ot VT's etc.

Sure get the right impedance cab

How loud does it get? (both alone and with a cab)
Most of the time it is little bit louder with a cab. How much ?

How is the gain?
