Didn't find one in the 2008 Frontline

But "HELL, NO!" is not my definite answer - according to Fender's nice tradition, a date on the body may differ a lot from the actual release date...

Ah-ha. Well I don't have the 2008 Frontline to hand, but I am looking at the 2007 one at this second. Page 154 has a couple of Squier Deluxes with mahogany bodies and Crimson Transparent finish. One is an HH, one an HSS, both pickguardless. So there's the possibility someone has put a Fender neck on a Squier body - not unknown...

There was an American Special Strat-O-Sonic in mahogany. But you'd know for sure if that's what you've got.

Also, without meaning any disrespect to anyone's eyesight, there was also a MIM Deluxe Player Strat in Crimson Red Transparent. It has an ash body, but beneath that dark red lacquer it could easily be mistaken for mahogany, at least in the photo. Another possibility.

Aside from these, no mahogany Strats in the 2007-08 period either.

Care to post pictures of your guitar, Steve? Might help...?

Cheers - C

No need. I completely trust what you saw there. :)

Yes they did - they have had several special runs for Guitar Center/Musician's Friend over the years with mahogany bodies finished in red during the 2000w. They were always HSS, but the first run or two were American Deluxe spec, the rest were American Series spec. I think the 2008 run was the last run, and they used the American Series spec (the older trem with the cast saddles, still had the S-1 switch) instead of the American Standard spec (the "American Series" was revised for 2008 and the name "American Standard" was restored).

Since these were FSR/special runs they were never in a Frontline catalog or on-line.

The American Special Mahogany HSS sported a black-painted headstock, sharing many of the 2nd generation American Deluxe specifications. Pickups were a DH-1 Atomic humbucker in the bridge and a pair of Tex-Mex single coils in the middle & neck.

This FSR was introduced in 2005 and discontinued in 2007.

I own a 2008 and it's my overall favorite Strat. I did replace the bridge pickup with a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates. Great guitar, stock humbucker wasn't responsive enough for me though.
