Well I picked this guitar up for £15 in a charity shop, I'm not too knowledgeable on fenders so I wasn't too sure as to what to think. However, I do get the suspiscion that it is fake due to the amount of damage on the logo which seems to be a sticker of some kind (from the fenders I've seen in shops, they don't use stickers), it has also had it's scratchplate changed as can be seen, by the hole being drilled in the wrong place. On the other hand the serial number is definitely real so I've come here to check as to what you guys think? (See pictures below).

For £15 I'm not too fussed if it is a fake, but if i can make a shod load of money I'll be happy! If it is real, and being in such a bad state, how much do you think I could get for it?

It's as real as Ritchie Blackmore's hair.
The serial number is used on other guitars.
In the time period the serial number is from, STRATOCASTER was written in a curve, in bold.
The back plate doesn't have offset mid screws.
The 12th fret dots are wide apart.

Depending on where you live, it may be illegal to buy or sell fakes. At least don't cross borders with it.

I'm in the UK, it was a charity shop after all so I'm not going to go back and complain. I'll just leave it here. Thanks for telling me though!

It's a real Squier (if that tells you anything).

The guitar arth1 linked up is probably the actual guitar that came from Fender with that serial number.

Tough deal to then have counterfeiters start using it.

I'm a big fan of The Man In Black's guitar playing, particularly with MkII Purple first time around, but this is the funniest thing I've seen in a long time

Pop the neck and look in the cavity and on the neck itself.
Pull the pickguard.

It'll be clear.

£15 for a Squier tricked out to look Fender-ish isn't a bad deal, you can't be too disappointed with that guitar. I'd just hope that if you sell it on you disclose to potential buyers the real nature of the instrument.

Rossendale eh, not a million miles from me. You certainly have better charity shops up there than here in Stockport.

I'm a Manc lad moved out North a couple of decades ago.
It's close by Manchester, but the air is fresher.
And we have an excellent pie shop (Cissy Green's) :D

I still spend a large number of waking hours in the Manchester area - today t'was Ashton Under Lyme.
Then there's the regular visits to The Etihad ....
My lad is going there later on today to see our U21s playing Chelsea U21s. So will I if I get back from South of The Thames early enough. Got a 1st fix to do somewhere around Greenwich ....
