I'm looking at a 1984 american standard but I want to make sure it's real deal and not a reissue. Is there somewhere I can go to find out? I haven't seem pics yet, but it's supposed to be gunmetal blue. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

What makes you think it is a 1984? Pics would help us to determine it's true age, since the American Standard didn't come out till '87 IIRC.

And you can be positive it is not a reissue...Fender has never reissued the early spec MIA Standard

Taking it apart and checking the dates is the best way.

Or contacting Fender (consumerrelations@fender.com) with the serial number.

This is a good thread dealing with that issue: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=73793

Also; note that there is a difference between the "Standard Stratocaster (made-in-USA)" vs. the "American Standard Stratocaster". The later didn't go into production until late 1987, but early versions carried over "E-4xxxx" NOS decals.

I am betting the same thing. It is most likely a 1986-7 American Standard Strat with the E4 serial number. Gunmetal Blue was used in that era.
