Last month I bought one of the 60th Anniversary 1954 Stratocasters along with a used American made Hot Rod Deluxe, for to many reasons I care to type about I couldn't really let the two open up until tonight, a match made in guitar heaven!!!!!!! Even my 2000 American Standard with EMG's sounded better. Kind of makes me want to consider getting a attenuator, anybody on here have any experience with one or are they a waste of money?
Thanks, Harry

One cheap method is to wire up a pot in a small box and couple of plugs.
One is mono and one is stereo
Place this from the pre out to the power in. This way you can drive the preamp into distortion and still control the output gain.
It is not quite like operating the amp full out since the end stage is not doing much but at least you can use the amp at moderate volume levels.
Might be mentioned in the Steve Dallman mods... :D

Harry it sounds like your problem may be with loudness issues.

To deal with playing without disturbing others, even while sleeping, I wound up getting a small amp with a headphone output jack. Works with a Wall Wart or batteries!

The MicroCube also has an input jack for an ipod or other device.

The original speaker/cab sounded pretty bad when not using headphones. Fortunately, my friend rebuilt an old Office Speaker Cab for me using a new 8" Jensen Vintage Ceramic speaker and it's pretty good for something only 7 lbs.

Point is there are a lot of that kind of Amp around, for less than an attenuator, that may work better for you.

Thanks for the reply's,
I probably should have mentioned the fact I have a Yamaha THR 10 for the bedroom volume. The EMG's sound fine through it but the 54 seems a little weak, however when I plug the 54 into the Hot Rod it comes alive so now I crave that sound.
Thanks again!
Harry

+1

Tasteful enough for living-room décor without the wife pitching a bytch.

Thanks Arjay, I think it can go anywhere, as long as the batteries last!

IF I was still married  I'd probably have to brush on another coat of stain to cover the scuffs on the bottom to display within the decor.

For now it's Bachelor Chic, like me! :D
