Here are the photos of the assembled strat. Still doing some tweaking to the setup but basic set up done and sounds good. Not sure to paint or stain.

I forgot to answer one question on the higher fret reach. It's the same as the strat. A contoured heel would have been nice.

The small block I added in the swimming pool route is just above the blue tape.

I tried really hard to get the string through body holes to be perfectly in line, but without a drill press...

Anyway, a 24" scale strat came be done.

Thanks everyone!

The body's lumber would seem to favor a light-to-medium stain and a satin-finish top coat. The grain is both dramatic and attractive.

I think it turned out pretty sweet -- sort of a "Duo-Sonic Meets Stratocaster" (a Duo-caster?).

Rawk on!

Exactly right.

Or a burst. Or a transparent colour finish - cherry, for example. Or even an oil finish: teak oil or Danish oil.

But one way or another, something that lets us see that timber. The grain is too nice and regular to lose it beneath paint.

Altogether, I like this project. A gentlemen wants a 24 inch scale Strat, the Company doesn't make one so he sets about building it himself. And pulls it off well, by the looks of it. That's the homebuild ideal in a nutshell!

Nice work, gtr5150. 8)

Cheers - C

I think you nailed it.

And the savings of several thousand dollars is not an inconsequential matter either.

Here is the finished strat. I used a Honey Maple Minwax stain hoping to lighten the mahogany...it's darker than I wanted.

Perhaps so but the grain remains dramatic enough to provide some real contrast to the overall effort.

Definitely a keeper!

I'm not sure how it would've looked lighter, but I Think it's perfect like it is now.
Congrats looks like you made history :D 8)

The mini-toggle splits the outer and inner coils from the humbuckers for single-coil sounds. Not sure if the pickup selector is a 3 or 5-way. Nice job! :D

The grain pattern on the mahogany body is astonishing! :P

Perhaps you should've read this thread more thoroughly......

My donor neck came from my MIM Blacktop Jag. It fits perfectly. So far the project is going well. I had to cut a small piece of mahogany and glued it into the route since the route is for a 25.5" normal strat scale. I needed to mount the bridge .75" closer to the neck (25.5" - 24" = 1.5". Half of that is .75".) In theory this should work. Cutting the pickguard was a pain since all I had was my hand drill, small hack saw, and files. I soldered 3 500K audio pots, 3-way switch, Gibson BB2 (neck), BB3 (bridge) from my JB Studio LP.

Again, thank you all for you support.

I posted a question to the forum "Strat Wiring Question" earlier. That explains the mini-toggle.

In a nutshell, I wanted a 3-way switch (like the Blackmore signature strat), with separate tones (each pickup has it's own tone and different cap), and with 50s wiring (which wires the pickups to the volume pot and then to the tone pots. Like how vintage LPs are wired.) To do this and still be able to select both pickups, I needed the toggle which turns on the neck pickup. The middle position does nothing - I'm telling myself it's a hidden kill switch

The unused detent may provide some "growth potential" should you decide to rearrange the wiring in the future......
