You get what you pay for. Others will say that Squier is low quality and 'junk', but for the price- you can't have 'american quality' expectations if you only want to pay a fraction of the price.

Don't expect top notch if you only pay a couple hundred bucks- it is what it is. Squier are a good brand, they make quality guitars. It comes down to the manufacturer on the day. Also, somewhere in the batch of a hundred or so products, something will be faulty. Thats just the way it goes.

American, Mexican, Chinese...etc its all about how they are made, not stereotyping them into categories based on internet opinions of quality, or national pride. Ive seen with my own eyes, american guitars that have had minimal fret dressing, badly misaligned necks, Japanese guitars that are perfectly set up best frets I've ever seen, and chinese guitars that have nicely figured maple necks. The more expensive Chinese Squiers seem to be the best value for money. People like to buy guitars that have 'Made in USA' stamped or printed decals on them because it gives them a false sense of belief that what they have is indeed a superior guitar to any other (think Harley Davidson compared to a similar motorcycle that comes out of Japan) However, you gamble having it made by people who think they should be paid double to do less work, a factory that pumps them out the door at a mass-produced furious rate and everything will be done as much as possible on machine to cut the costs. On top of that, they (Fender/Gibson etc..) will charge as much as possible without consumers complaining about the price being too high in order to recoup profits for the shareholder. Gone are the times where people had high standards & actually took pride in the quality of work they do instead of the amount they get paid.

Ive just recently sold my MIM Strat because- well Its just didn't cut it for me. Frets were badly dressed, rosewood was low quality, the bridge pickup was rubbish. Basically, I came to the conclusion that if I had bought an eastern guitar of same specs, I would have got a better guitar. However Ive got two Japanese guitars that have been finished flawlessly, frets professionally hand dressed and the best setup & awesome pickups suited for the guitar. It just comes down to how someone takes pride in their work, or if the 'company' takes pride in their product- or if the company takes pride in their employee or vice versa.

Otherwise Its like going to McDonalds and complaining about customer service. You get exactly what you pay for.

That seems like a lot of money for a squire.

He's certainly overpaid. I'd be more pissed at that actually.

Even here, in Oz, guitars are notoriously expensive. Even I could haggle a Squire Std down to $250.

$366 was the SALE PRICE ..... :?:
You could have driven to New Hampshire or Maine and gotten a better price which the difference should have paid for the trip....

IMHO it would be best to just not deal with that shop, if their prices are marked up so high and they are not even recognized by Fender  .... Caveat Emptor should be the rule....
But more importantly, why would you pay so much for a entry level model when you should be able to find a MIM or even a MIA for that price, might be preowned but in excellent condition.

Squire's are great as entry level only.. The hardware and electronics are not up to a pro level instruments nor are they designed to be that.
Sell the Squire, count your losses and find either a nice MIM or MIA....
Nothing on that guitar will hold up over time, Squire's are stepping stones...
