Hey everyone. New member here, Got a MIM 60th the other day and really like the way it plays. I like the neck profile a little better than my Am. Standard. Sounds awesome too! Great sustain, no buzzing. The only issue I had was that the middle and neck pup on the low side were loose in which it would slide back and forth and the neck pup adjustment screw was loose to the point where I could pick it up with my finger nail about a 1/16 of an inch. Come to find out that the little latex or rubber like washer under the screw wasn't even up tight against the pick guard. So without removing the strings I just removed all but one screw on the pick guard and held the washer in place with needle nose pliers and tightened up the screw so it wouldn't move and readjusted the pup height which was low to begin with any way for me. Also does anyone know the production number of these MIM strats? Looks like the American ones are 1954, I wonder if its the same for the MIM or maybe 2014 as Fender is only making these for '14 model year. Look forward to soaking up as much knowledge as possible on the Stratocaster. Looks like I got a lot to learn. 8)

Welcome to the forums, you'll find that there are a lot of helpful folks on here with LOTS of Opinions to share! :D

Sounds like a nice guitar. It doesn't really exist until you post some pictures though. :(

If you don't know how, just ask.

Certainly glad to hear that you fix the little stuff without asking which end of the screwdriver to hold!

Only the Ltd. Ed. AVRI '54 will be limited to 1954 units.

For the MIM, I suspect you'll see production spill into 2015 just like they did w/ the Telecaster 60th.

The only limit will be that one day, they'll run out of 60th commemorative neckplates and stop making them...

Still a nice guitar, but as has been said: "Pics or it didn't happen..."

cheers!

Specs say that the 60th Anniv American Standard will only be built this year. No limit mentioned in specs for your guitar. As my esteemed colleague suggests, one never knows. In the matter of the #'s in the production run, that may governed by marketing expectations balanced against orders. The internal workings of these companies are often mysterious. It is not unheard of that a producer insists that a vendor purchase a minimum order of a stated number in order to remain viable with them.

Here's another example of a special situation. In 2008, Guitar Center ordered an FSR [factory special run] of the first VG Strat. It was an American Deluxe Edition with a V-neck finished in aged cherry burst. That guitar was sold at $1800 street. When the VG was discontinued in 2009, the price of all the models was cut to the bone to clear stock. I bought the FSR with the case for $1000.

Hang out here long enough and participate in the chatter, and you'll become 'street-wise' in due course. It was a Forum member who cued me to the fact that he had seen an FSR out there, which started my search.

Thanks guys. Yeah I figured the production might do that. Just keep making 'em til the CEO or other top brass says... "Okay!... enough of these guitars lets build something else the people want" Here's a couple of pics I hope up loaded okay. The 60th next to my Std.

Beautiful! The CP 50s is an excellent guitar to begin with, and the appointments of the 60th Ann put it over the top. :D

Nice guitar! As for the amount it depends on what Fender means by "only made during this year". I suspect it means that there will be some point later this year set as the "cut-off" date for a dealer to place an order for the 60th Anniversary CP and American Standard models. If the cut-off date is late enough then production could run over until early 2015 depending on their scheduling in the factory as they will keep making them until they fulfill all the dealer orders.

I thought it a nice take on their MIM V-neck Stratocaster. The Buddy Guy and JV guitars are also representative of that genre. IMHO, the electronics in this baby are superior to the Guy guitar. I swapped those pups out for Dimarzio's first incarnation of the Virtual Vintage/Heavy Blues pups. The pickups in this guitar are described as 'American Vintage Strat.' I wonder are they the 'Pure Vintage '56 Strat' pickups that are in the '56 American Vintage guitar or something that was created specifically for this run and will either never be heard of again, or name-morphed for another application. Fender, far too often, finds a way of confounding terminology, leaving us in the dark.

+1 Fender's "shell game" pickup strategy leaves me cold. Unless it's a premium stock set, Lace Sensors on a Plus, SCN or Noiseless on a Deluxe, I'm gonna replace them.

And I'll buy elsewhere looking for truth in advertising, in so much as it can be found.

An email to consumer relations should clarify the issue. Your preferences recognized, I would deem it important to maintain the integrity of the piece and I would retain the original equipment in the event it were to be sold in future.

I Agree on maintaining integrity and value of a worthy guitar. I've put more than one set of original pickups back in for a sale.

These days I'd rather do a "build".

That being said, I played my first Clapton Neck yesterday and...MAMMA MIA...it was nice! 8)

I play both a Jimmie Vaughan and Am Dlx with V neck contours and the Clapton was much better feeling in my hand.

The rest of the guitar, a 2010 "Blackie" artist series was good, but kind of deluxe ordinary.

I was in a GC and didn't bother to haggle on the $1,699.99 price tag.

I did ask if they'd sell the neck separately!

Now you have a hands on appreciation for my preference. The other two guitars you auditioned essentially have the same generic Fender V-neck profile. The Clapton neck is significantly different. You'd likely be able to find one on eBay and or through the unmentionable around here guitar chop shop.

I liked it so much that the thought of saving a few bucks with a Warmoth "Clapton" contour is no longer appealing.

There's a '91 Blackie Neck on ebay now that's pretty affordable, but comes with this warning:

Condition: There is a slight groove in the wood in front of the nut from the string. The truss rod head is currently stripped. You can turn it left to loosen it, but you can't turn it right anymore. Currently the neck has a slight twist in it from the string tension pulling on the loosened neck. If you know how to repair this issue you can get a good neck for cheap.

I'll try a lot of stuff at least once, but taking the twist out of a neck, NAAH, that shall remain someone else's problem. 8)

It's too bad that the alternative source is unmentionable here or I could find out. Would you mind sending a PM? Do they currently sell quite a bit of cannibalized Strat parts on ebay? Considered the high priced spread?

Hey nice mim strat congrats.
One thing I originally missed is this classic player has a two point trem normally found on the USA models! When did this start happening on the mexis? :D
