I just got done re-stringing my new USA strat. It took me 1/2 hour because I was being so careful to not scratch anything. I'm sure that will wear off after a while.

Half an hour? Restringing the whole thing, half an hour? That's not funny!

Heck, I had to restring my high E the other week on my acoustic and it took around that long for just one! Damn thing kept poinking back out, drove me nuts. Didn't have a string winder, either. One measly skinny string, half an hour.. that's funny. :x

I usually spend that long, cause I take the opportunity to clean the whole guitar up while I'm at it. I also adjust my action and intonation if necessary, and REALLY give the strings a thorough breaking-in. I usually do this after the wife goes to bed and I can EASILY spend a whole hour on a string-change and pampering the guitar a bit. I have a Strat, a Gibson Les Paul, and a no-name Tele knock-off. When I change the strings on all three, I can eat up a whole afternoon on that no problem.

 My attention span is too short to take that much time to change my stings. I'm 10 minutes tops including wiping everything down and stretching them.

Depends on how much I'm playing and where, but I typically change them at least once a week. That roughly equates to 8-12 hours worth in a normal week. I always put a fresh set on for a gig and keep plenty of spare sets in my gig bag.

When I change my strings it always takes me over an hour. I clean the fretboard thoroughly then treat it, restring, stretch, tune, and recheck the entire setup.

I do my string changes about every 4 months depending on how much I play each guitar.

I easily take that long. I usually take anywhere from half hour to 45 minutes. I use that time with making sure the stings wind properly, and I usually clean the fingerboard and condition it (I sweat a lot). Not a big deal if I take my time. I'm usually doing this project while watching TV.

I used to take all the strings off so i could thoroughly clean the frets, but i read in several sources that taking all your strings off all at once can have an adverse effect on the neck. Is this true?

I never used to mind when i was playing cheaper guitars, but i really want to look after my American Standard Strat?

This has more than likely been answered before, but what the hell?

If you actually cut them all off at once (all 6 at the exact same time) you might have an issue, but removing them one at time until all 6 are off won't damage your guitar.
I do it all the time and have actually left the strings off of a Fender Tele for over 6 months with no adverse affects.

When you are taking them off all at once you need to work inwards from each side, I've been told? To prevent just working in from one side, and the tension on the remaining strings being all on the other side and potentially causing a twisting of the neck.

Anyway, it's something I won't be doing for awhile. I'm still learning and I think it'll be a looong while yet until I need to replace all my strings.. I don't expect the plinka-plink songs I'm doing right now are going to deaden my strings anytime soon!
