I bought a new in the box American Deluxe this month (Apr 2014). The serial no on the headstock is a 2012 serial no. While I believe the configuration is identical to a 2013/2014, is there any downside (or upside) such as resale value, etc. from getting a 'brand new 2 year old' model.

Nope !! :D :D

Resale value isn't something you need to worry about now. If anything, it may bottom out on the depreciation curve a little sooner to matter, but not more than a few bucks, if that. Condition rather than age is what's gonna drive a resale.

I just got a new American Deluxe Ash ACB/Rw last week - Ser.#US14008025 !! 8)

These are wonderful guitars !!

Congrats on yours !

cheers!

+1

It's not like a new car which a dealer paid the flooring charges on it for several months then sold it off for a discount at the beginning of the next model year. An unsold guitar does not depreciate in the same manner as a motor vehicle.
