So, I've got a new USA strat. Do I take the plastic ans stickers off the pick gaurd and plate on the back or leave them on? I've seen people do both. Does it keep the resale value better if I leave them on?

Thank you.

Eric

It's up to you.

My personal preference is to take them off.

IMHO it looks tacky to leave those covers on the pick guard and such but as Chet said it's up to you. Those pieces can be easily replaced if they get too ugly thereby not affecting resale.

I dunno...it really is up to you.
It's kinda like putting plastic slip covers on your couch before you use it so it stays "nice"...

It's better to take them off.

After time the areas that are covered with the stickers will still have the original color under them, while the uncovered areas will change with time and conditions.

A Hendrix edition Strat came into a friends shop and the stickers had been left on the pickguard and just recently removed, the discoloration was very noticeable.

I took all mine off. I was tempted to leave the American Flag one on...but then, I thought to myself...."Self, it's still a sticker, take it off".

I don’t see how leaving the stickers on there could increase the value unless you don’t plan on playing it… You wouldn’t want to miss lead anyone .....and a toy never played with is not a toy at all

You don't have to worry about resale value for a long time. You won't get back what you paid unless you keep it locked up fo a decade or two. In the mean time you will have missed the point of owning a Strat... that is to play it. When I got my Am Dlx I immidiately stripped off all stickers and plastic. I've bought and sold many guitars in my 30 some years of playing. As far as my Strat goes you're going to have to pry it out of my dead claws

I would remove the plastic. If you leave them on for a long time, they could leave some residue on the pick-guard.

Are we really doing this one again????? It might be more valuable to those who post repeated questions to refer them to archives as well.

Doc
