I thought it might prove to be a tasty combo with your middle and neck choices.

BTW, what value and type of tone cap are you using?

I think you're onto something -- I was just going to suggest that.

The MIK Koa Top Strat (where the Dimarzios are) has the Kinman K9 solderless system. I have no idea what caps are there. The system is all pre-wired. You just bolt it in. The only soldering I have to do is to fabricate and install the little plugs on the end of the pup leads because I'm not using the Kinman pups which come with the lead plugs already installed. I suppose I could email Kinman and ask.

The Partsocaster has an Orange Drop .022uF.

Here's an older pic of the K9 taken when I was still using the Kinman pups in it. In this pic it was the Woodstock set.

I use an Area 67 in the neck, an Area 54 Pro in the middle and an Injector Neck in the bridge. I have it wired so that I can get the neck/bridge pickups combo too. This arrangement covers both your desired categories and then some.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

Well Martian; I'm glad my old thread caught your attention and gave you reason to post again.
I see it's been 3 1/2 months since I first posted this. I still haven't finished the partscaster that I needed pups for. I guess I work pretty slow these days.
I do have the pick guard ready to go in, but I went with Fat 50's. The DiMarzio's will probably be a second loaded pick guard that I put together as an alternate. I'm leaning towards the hotter combo that I listed, but I'll wait to see how I like the Fat 50's before deciding on a back up set.

And to think my wife thought me crazy for erecting that Faraday Cage around our computer room and ordering all those tin-foil suits with the matching fedora's from Art Bell.

I thank you!

When working on what is surely going to be at least one of your signature guitars, slow and steady wins the race. I've found that if I put myself on some kind of preordained schedule with such things, the enjoyment goes right out of it. The worst part is, once the guitar is completed under these circumstances, I'll never enjoy it. Looking at it will immediately remind me of the stress I put myself through to finish it where I'll rather quickly be looking to unload it. So, believe me when I tell you, take all the time in the world.

As to the different pickup sets, who knows? The Fat 50s and your rig might just do the job for you so of course, give them a fair shot for they are a great set. If you find you need more muscle, you then know what to do.

Good luck and if you need any help, just holler!

I would be curious to hear opinions on the Kinman vs Area series who have both. I have Kinman P90s in my LP and they are fantastic.
I am very happy with the Dimarzios in my start, but I have to wonder if the grass is greener.

I own several different variations of DiMarzio's Virtual Vintage noiseless Strat pickups. An old acquaintance of mine installed a set of Kinman's in a '57 AVRI Strat the week after he bought it new in 2002. Having played his guitar several times, I give the nod ever-so-slightly to the Kinman's. Both brands are excellent pickups but his produce a snappier "quack" and "squawk" than the DM's, especially when played clean. However, the DiMarzio's are significantly less expensive and can accomplish 90% of a Strat's mission.

Being still new to guitar, I'm probably missing something, but how did you take out the pickguard without removing the strings??
