I just bought a Koa Strat made in Korea. It has Seymour Duncan single coils. I read
somewhere that it has 500k pots. I haven't pulled the pickguard to see if is true, but
the guitar is awfully bright. Should I change the pots to 250k if it does have 500k and
would it take some of the brightness out?

Your koa Strat must be beautiful. Yes, 250K pots will definitely take out some of the brightness.

Cheaper solutions to the over brightness would be to use the neck pickup or adjust the tone controls on your guitar and amp.

Also, if the strings are brand new, that could be the issue. Let them mellow out some with time.

Thanks...I've been messing with the tone controls and I can get the brightness out. I think I'll leave it as is.....and yes it is beautiful....best Strat I've ever owned.

Yeah, post them on this thread instead of starting a new thread. You can post the pictures here and delete the other thread before someone responds to the other thread. WTF?

I had one of those at one time. Loved it. For the life of me I don't know why I sold it.

Good pickups? Check.
Birdseye maple neck? Check.
Beautiful wood? Check.
Large neck strap buttons? Check. I really liked the oversized strap buttons. I hate strap locks.
Quality tuners? Check.

You got yourself a nice one. However, we need photos or it's not real.

Yes you can, with the "X" within your post. The "X" disappears after someone responds. Thanks danagos. :)

That is a gorgeous guitar! The Korean made guitars and amps are very nice. I had a MIK "Pro Tone" series Strat once that was great.

I had the same trouble with my Koa Strat. You are correct, it does come with 500 K pots.

Image

I put250k pots in mine and it still was pretty bright and thin. Then I put Kinmans in it along with their K9 harness and it was much better.

Image

Later I swapped in a mixed set of Dimarzio Area pups on the advise of a couple of members here but kept the K9 switch and I could not be happier.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
