dont agree with you.

the MG 100HDFX is a very good amp

uh yeah. it's the cheapest beginner amp with a shrill SS tone and the lowest line of Marshall. it's comparable to a squier affinity. if you think that low-end budget is "very good", more power to you :)

I have been playing strats/electric guitar for about 20 years now. I also own other tube amps. Take it from me anything can be used effectively when it comes to guitar. BUT atleast one good tube amp is necessary in my opinion. I love cranking the Blues Junior & putting a mic in front of it for recording. It sounds awesome!
I'm purchasing a brand new

My set up is only a 30 watt mx30fx marshall amp, a 1960s replica reissue strat, no modifications. Plus a dunlop wah wah pedal. I just feel the tone isnt that soft or sweet, and when i have it heavy it just blurs, any ideas on amp settings or any tips, im going for an overdriven sound, something that sounds good in most rifs, eg guns and roses style but can also do heavy riffs and solos.....thanks in advance Been playing for 3-4 years, but totallys elf taught..... :D so prob not a touch on most of you :)

Hi BruceyBoy,

Solid state circuitry is great for emulations and effects loops but it's true that it lacks the warmth of tubes. But class A amps are very expensive unless you're happy with 5 or 15 watts. I also have a solid state amp so I bought a very inexpensive tube preamp which did wonders for my tone. This is some info on the Pre that I bought:

This model comes in several flavors with prices ranging from $40.00 up to $100.00. I have also noticed some tube based OD stomp boxes on the market but since this Pre that I bought has an awesome gain levels I don't really need another one.
