A few years ago I bought a used 2001 American made Stratocaster with a rosewood fret board that was owned by a preacher, he bought it and had the shop put EMG pick up's a three ply pick guard and upgraded saddles on it, after a while he traded it back to them and I bought it. Well after playing my new 60th Anniversary I'm think about changing the neck on the 2001 to this.

From Fender parts page: Genuine U.S.-made Fender Stratocaster® guitar maple neck features a comfortable “modern C” profile and 9.5”-radius rosewood or maple fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets and rolled edges. Also includes Bi-Flex™ truss rod and pre-slotted synthetic bone nut. Tinted satin urethane finish on back for smooth feel, with gloss finish on maple fingerboard and headstock face.

What's some of your opinions??

What's wrong with the neck on the '01 Am Std?

What are you trying to improve?

Do you just like the feel or look of Maple better?

Since the pickguard and Pickups have been changed, you won't be devaluing the '01.

I'd change those EMG's before I bought a new neck if there isn't a fixable problem with the old one. That's just me, YMMV.

The guitar already looks like a Strat......it oughta sound like one too.

Yeah, I like Maple too. You can probably sell the old neck for a good penny if it's not busted up.

And it's a nice looking guitar! :D

Ash and Fat 50's......that's a combo that's hard to beat.

I spent much time listening to different pickups on line last night and some today and so far I like the Fender Custom Shop Custom ’69 Strat single-coil pickups, anyone on here have them? If so I would love to hear your thoughts on them. Thanks!

Sounds like a good idea if you're a maple neck fan. Everything else being the same, why not?

You're touting that you got your monies worth and then will shell out money for aesthetics? Not something that makes a difference in tone?
I don't get that.
Looks nice. Any clips?

Yeah I can understand the fact that you, "don't get that", but once I saw one with the maple fret board that was it and like I said above I'm looking real hard at those Custom Shop 69's plus not ruling out the Fat 50's.

The CS 69's are relatively low-gain and significantly less dynamic than something like the Texas Specials, the 57/62's, or the Fat '50s. I have a set of CS 69's and ended up installing them in my 12-string Strat. For that purpose, they're great. As far as using them in a standard guitar, they'd prolly be perfect if you play a lot of 70's pop, funk, or R&B. For a screaming lead-guitar tone though, no......they just don't have the cojones IMO.

The 60th ann Strats, namely the Commemorative and the 54 have rather chunky necks, not quite the described "modern C shape", but a bit beefier. My 2012 Am Std neck is a modern C, and definitely not as chunky as my 60th commemorative. I personally like the chunkier neck, for feel, stability, as well as added tone benefits.

If you like the CS 69s, maybe check out the CS 54s for a bit more fullness to the tone, with just as much sparkle/jangle.
